What the hell happened, guys? Consumerism and cliches have always been a big part of this industry, but the levels of conformism we are reaching nowadays are... amazing.
Many people here claim that "Kanojo, Okarishimasu" is the show of the year, and even though I watch it while I want to waste my time, it is at most a 5/10 show, same structure as always, same cliches as always... And believe me, I was already into this when "Love Hina" was a thing.
I know that we can't have a Berserk / Monster / Vagabond / Evangelion / GTO / FMA, every year, but you guys are elevating shitshows to "state of art" standards. At least go for quality shitshows (e.g. Kodomo no Jikan, The Breaker, etc).

Manga is great at the moment. Anime has too strict a format and since it requires so many people to be involved it's gotten more and more controlled for cost and less experimentation for most studios is allowed. So many anime are adaptations of manga or LNs (and sometimes VNs) too, and those formats are more longform than your typical anime series these days so you end up with a lot of partially adapted shows while the studios move onto the next property to partially adapt. It's a combination of safe creation, with adaptations being from mediums incompatible with the current TV anime format. Not that I think adaptations were generally better in the past but it's gotten even worse, even if you take into account how much closer anime tend to stick to the source material these days.
A regular shit romance won't ever be "Show of the Year" unless it's actually special, people hyping things like that up are newfags from the normie sphere of Anime which is fine as long as I get my shit out of their pocket.
