I'm saying villain of the week isn't why the anime went to shit. All 1st and 2nd have are a little more side stories, every other aspect that's shit about the later ones are the same for the old ones.

Because switching to villain of the week meant that we lost the SoL interactions
We lost Itsuki, Iketani and Kenji in exchange for boring ass Ryosuke, Keisuke and Kenta who's only role was to explain the race to us
And we lost learning about other racers and their characters and motivations
Instead we got a racer introduced and gone in the same episode

Iketani was a character with potential, but they just made him job to the scrubbest of racers just to make Takumi look good.
I wish he got more development in the manga, same for Kenji.
God, it's one of the reasons MF Ghost is so boring to me. Almost nothing outside races, and the races pacing is boring as fuck.

I remember the first time I watched this, it was from the Chinese dub subbed in English, and the names were all inconsistent, sometimes they had their Japanese names, sometime the English one, and sometimes what I'd assume was the Chinese names.

My main issue is stage 1 and 2 build up characters and then we get a tease of the Gunma all-star team of all those characters. but after 3rd stage when we know it's just takumi and keisuke. They just ditch the characters from stage 1 and 2 that shigeno built upon.

And not to mention that Bunta never gave Takumi the one last gift he had left for him
Or Takumi talking about learning God Hand's style once but then never mentioning it again

Everytime Nakazato is talked about it's as some godlike racer that could be one of the best in Japan if he manages to control his nerves
But we see him race 3 times and he eats shit and cracks under the pressure in all 3
