Okabe knows he can't die up until a certain date, but he can still fail. Subaru knows he can resetif he fails, but he has to die (and even then he doesn't know if it's guaranteed, he just trusts the witch). Both handle their situations interestingly but it's not really comparable. Science vs voodoo magic.

Emilia and Rem are basically Kurisu and Mayushii, respectively. Right now Rem is dead and Subaru is trying to do everything to get her back.

Kurisu and Mayuri are both flat waifubait characters. They play a role in the plot but are basically plot devices with either a generic tsundere personality or brain damage.

There's a tolerable level of waifubait. AFAIK, Rem sucks up to Subaru a lot, while Emilia only has to breathe to make Subaru feel alive. Kurisu actually bantered with Okabe and felt more involved with him, and Mayuri is obviously his childhood friend. These aren't even really compelling traits to their character, and yet it's still infinitely better than what Emilia and Rem are to Subaru.

Okabe has killed people hasn't he? I remember he got kidnapped and still found a way to get back to the time machine. Actually kind of cool that they just left that to the viewer's conclusion. For what it's worth, Okabe's suffering is a lot worse given he has a lot less to work with compared to Subaru.
