>Tfw motherfucking Yugioh is the closest thing to a good Umineko anime
I just reached episode 211 and the plot twist is the greatest thing ever but at the same time I'm salty. So Yugi and Bakura are actually Gods playing with the fate of everyone in a twisted game while in a purple void.
Also Akunadin totally has Gohda's voice and Mana the Witch sounds like young Eva
Tfw motherfucking Yugioh is the closest thing to a good Umineko anime
>So Yugi and Bakura are actually Gods playing with the fate of everyone in a twisted game while in a purple void.
You didn't figure that out when they revealed yugi as a pharaoh?
I mean the obvious thing is to assume he travelled to the past and was reliving it. Kinda like a self-inserter, but the past.
Just now he woke up in the real world and remembered he's not one of the pieces, but in fact a game master.
Still pretty hype.
Magic cards don't exist!
The best arcs were the ones unrelated to the card game
any chance we'll ever get occult yu gi oh back?
i mean I'm pretty sure we explored all there is to explore in the sci fi aspects by the point we reached aliens and virtual worlds and honestly by sevens this shit just feels tired.
can we go back already.
Yugioh is an amazing series, heavely underrated. Even if its arguably the most famous anime based card game, as a plot-themed anime is highly underrated.
Yeah Yu-gi-oh was famous BECAUSE of the Occult. Everyone linked satanic symbols and demonic stuff to Yugioh, I mean it was literally a dark card game about betting souls and stuff. The Orichalcos arc even has Dartz mentioning it's just another way humanity has to call forth spirits while showing images of witches holding hands together doing rituals.
But apparently, now Yugioh's identity is the same as Digimon. Super stylish and shiny armored dragons and knights.
Are there more arcs unrelated to the card game in future sequels? GX is good but even in the dark world the spirits are playing card games while it was obviously intended to be another Millenium World deal with the monsters battling freely.
>Are there more arcs unrelated to the card game in future sequels?
I don't think so. Every time I've seen any other series it's all card all the time
only the OG yugioh had unrelated card themed arcs, and only the OG yugioh actually gets into the real deal about the game (spirits of dead people being the monster themselves...all of the egypt stuff)
Kind of a let down that you build all this lore up through 224 episodes and next anime sequels just ignore the Egypt arc.
Yeah indeed. I guess the newer generations are more colorful and flashy oriented so they made it more "easy" to digest
it genuinely is a huge let down.
Zexal and 5ds were already soft reboots for the series that took the anime in the sci fi direction so i'm hoping for another reboot that takes it in an opposite direction that calls back to its roots
>he's not one of the pieces, but in fact a game master.
Technically he's both, sort of like how Bakura is a game master while also having the bandit king bakura piece and that other bakura piece that tries to interfere with regular Yugi and friends.
I might pick this up. Is the manga any good? I heard the mangaka takes his style from Araki.
Is the colored scans any good?
Reading the whole manga from start to finish, I have to say this really was an amazing plot twist.
5Ds tried to do something with South American mysticism but those were just elements for the first portion of the plot and then sidelined for time travel and robots from the future.
The colored scans are godlike, the difference is like reading B&W Jojo and colored Jojo. Much better if you go colored but still good BW (I can't go back though).
The manga is much better than the anime, but I still like the music and voice acting (japanese of course). But yeah manga is 300% a better story (anime still good)
In their defense the sex cult thing kinda fucked them over
>as a plot-themed anime is highly underrated.
Duelist Kingdom and Battle City weren't really anything special. They were just decent tournament arcs. Millennium World was the unique plot line that stands out but it wasn't executed that well due to Takahashi's health so it ended up not capitalizing on its potential. But the manga is underrated for sure because it doesn't feel like a card commercial at all.
Thanks man. Definitely will check it out
You mean the occult aesthetic. It's always kept being occult.
>Everyone linked satanic symbols and demonic stuff to Yugioh
sevens is mainly satanic symbolism.
the most popular 'storyline' and card characters featured in the OCG right now has to do with a magician who goes too far dabbling with forbidden magic and a salty magic-authoritarian leader who wants to build and control his own strict magical city
>Sevens
I mean yeah, but..
>Sevens
Yeah but it does not give you the "occult/satanist" vibes anymore. Looks more like some dumb designed character with annoying personality fighting the world order through card games which art contains sometimes dark related stuff and no more.
That's shitty and superficial as fuck, no wonder why it has cero relevance outside japan
takahashi is one of those authors who significantly levels up in art over the course of the manga, but the early stuff still has intrigue because of all the weird stuff yugi & co. get themselves into with the magical aspect. shadi's first major trial is probably still one of the more aesthetic parts of the manga
Well when I put "occult aesthetic", that just means the stuff you associate with the occult. There is no true occult aesthetic because it just means hidden or obscured. If you can't recognize it, that just means it's more occult. And the reason yugioh anime doesn't matter much outside of japan is because the audience moved on.
The Pharaoh is considered a living God, and heir to Osiris, but they are not an actual God. It was probably something they made up to justify their rule similar to how European Kings said they were ordained by God to rule over others and the Chinese Emperors said they were given the mandate to rule by being virtuous and holier than thou, or how the Vietnamese and Japanese Emperors told their people their line descended from someone holy like Amaterasu or Dragons.
Well yeah, the plot/execution of characters is beyond nonsensical. After card games on motorcycles, you know theres no turning back.
Nah, it's all card games. It's kinda sad because they tried other things with the original show/manga with other games, and this includes those that made it to real life (even if they weren't that successful).
That being said, some of the really weird/hilarious moments from GX has nothing to do with card games. They even had good joke about it one time and it was great.
funny you say that when 5d's outside of its middle part is probably the most streamlined and normie friendly after DM
