sounds like a good place to get the rona

Yes, especially after the Kyoani fire they are now martyrs that have to be praised whatever they produce

Is this the first proper thing kyoani has made since the fire?

Any news of streaming or it's the usual 'wait 6 months for BD'?

IIRC they put out a hibike euphonium movie or ova or something a couple months back.

Looks like the movie did >1M just on friday, more than Tenet.

no? violet evergarden gaiden, the free movie and probably some other things
course these were already finished before the fire

No one cares about this garbage

Who asked ?

Things are gonna be even more insufferable now.

chink virus is gonna scare away people from watching it.

They're still keeping that dumb franchise alive? KyoAni has fallen so far.

Went and watched this today.
>3 stories that don't tie together well despite being a series finale movie like Take on Me
>"Gilbert survived and is on an island calling himself "Jillebart the grape farmer"" or whatever instead of just fucking staying dead like how the fuck did he get out of the castle
>feels like they tried to make it a standalone to some degree but made it clunky instead
>awful pacing, stiff and cliche dialogue writing
>beautiful OST and scenery/backdrops/water animation

>kino: Violet almost stabs the Major in the throat with an umbrella

6/10 idk why the nips were crying so hard.

>Major survived
Alright I can finally rest in peace now. What else happened in the film user?

Soulless cash-grab, the series ended on a nice bittersweet note, why ruin it with this shameless display?

Sorry, mixed it up.
She almost stabs the COLONEL 大佐 in the neck. The older brother.

I'll write out the plotlines if you want?

>I'll write out the plotlines if you want?
Why not?

proper is not the term I would use for anything related to Violet Evergarden.

Just want to know if they pussy out and made it some ambiguous bullshit or if they properly had a romance.

Wait isn't this movie quite old already? Or did they make another one.

>Violet's story: her life is all work and no play. Invited to festival? works instead. spends her off days going to gilbert's mom's grave. runs into the major there, who picks up a ribbon Violet dropped. Goes to give it to Violet, almost gets stabbed in the throat. Postmaster and that blond fag coincidentally find an undeliverable letter in what looks like Gilbert's handwriting. Postmaster checks in with the colonel before he and Violet go off to find Gilbert. They find him on a bumfuck island. He's emo as fuck thinking he ruined Violet's life but also works at an orphanage because the island's entire adult male population died in the war and therefore should have other meaningful shit to worry about instead. Postmaster visits the colonel first and gets told to fuck off. Violet runs in after and gets told to fuck off. After crying and coordinating AIDS kid's phone call via morse code from a post office lighthouse, she writes a letter to Gilbert and goes to leave the island. Gilbert's out-of-nowhere plotline is that he followed family tradition and became an ARMY man because the older brother was rebellious. After reading the letter, older brother magically shows up (despite a 3-day trip and a hurricane) and tells him to be free. Gilbert chases Violet's boat and yells her name. Despite hundreds of feet of wind, waves, and boat engines between them, Violet hears him, sees him, then jumps off the boat and swims to him and they get married and live happily ever after.

Fuck this story.

Did you read the screenshot in OP?

>side story 1: set decades in the future; violet is implicitly dead. a daughter is angry that her mom can't attend the daughter's grandmother's (B's mother's) funeral properly. Grandmother's mother had hired Violet to write posthumous letters to her daughter the grandmother. The story-focus daughter wants to hire Violet and thus goes searching for her. Since the invention of telephones, "dolls" have become obsolete and the Post Office a museum. The daughter meets a former receptionist who used to work at the post office who tells her Violet lives on some bumfuck island whose name I can't remember (the island Gilbert was hiding on). She goes, gets told that Violet literally wrote more letters than entire countries, and writes the letter she wanted herself. It goes to her parents and basically says I love you.

Theoretically, it shows up Violet's emotional journey impacted the world around her, but in actuality, it's execution is piss-poor, especially when woven into the other two story arcs.

>side story 2: coincides with Violet's story. boy in a hospital with AIDS calls Violet. Violet, hearing his voice and realizing he prolly broke as fuck, fakes a contract and lets herself be hired for 27 cents or something. She writes letters to his mom, dad, and brother to be delivered when the boy dies. She writes the letters and this story magically skips days or weeks forward idk TIME DOESNT MATTER IN THIS MOVIE.

Next part's iffy as fuck

>Boy's AIDS gets worse. Violet, being on her fuck-off island with her cunt love interest, can't be at the hospital, so she morse codes her coworkers to take the deathbed letters to the boy's death bed. Blonde Guy and New Girl go and decide he needs to say goodbye to the best friend. The blond guy (who's now vice president of the post office) goes off in his jallopy and searches the streets to find the best friend, which he does. Miraculously. Blond guy and best friend force themselves into a rich guy's house to borrow his bleeding edge telephone (a rotary dial from the 1920s or something). New Girl steals a phone from the lobby and takes it to the boy's room. Boy and best friend get to talk and the boy dies immediately after. Crying in the movie and in the theater ensues. This magically snaps Violet out of the trauma of being told to fuck off.

Woulda been good if told on its own. Best storyline of the three. Too bad the other two ruined it.

Why would they put 3 barely connected sidestories into one big 140 minute clusterfuck? Just make a proper Violet meets Gilbert movie with 80 minutes and put the rest into a separate OVA, no? This way they could even make more money.

I honestly don't fucking know.
It all felt disjointed and messy to me though, like they were trying to give the fanbase everything it wanted all at once. Return of the best episode in the series? Check. Violet having a romantic storyline? Check. Melancholic story because melancholy? Check. There's no collective theme, no sense of cohesion or relation or anything... they just all kind of happen.

Oh, and Chihara Minori's character wasn't mentioned at all despite just about everyone else showing up.

Maybe when the subbed version comes out, people will be able to convince me that the 3 stories are connected in some contrived 12th-grade-English sort of way, but until then... hard pass.

And what the fuck is up with that other thread and the fag MTLing Twitter posts?

Ngl this summary made me chuckle, thanks user. Is the ED theme a TRUE song or Minori Chihara?

Actually, I messed up. I think Erica was in it and I didn't recognize her cus they changed her hair.

True.

Single was released a few days ago.

So they went with the Gilbert and Bioret romance route? Based. Reddit is going to seethe.

Was there an alternative?

There was some screeching about how since this movie follows the anime continuity that Gilbert would stay dead because a romance between the two is too "problematic".

Is there a tribute for the arson victims at the end? I’m curious if they do it at nipland

Sat through the credits, but I didn't see any dedications etc. related to the fire.
