So I just caught up with the entire series and I need to ask something quite important.
Why the hell do people say the series is wish fulfilment when the entire point of the first 3 arcs hammers through your head that escapism is terrible and running away from your problems won't solve anything?
Are people stupid? Do people not understand what they're watching or do they just have a really selective memory?

If you really want to know why people substantially hate the anime, it's because the script is written poorly (e.i the dialogue doesn't flow in the media that it is adapted in) and its concepts aren't expressed all that well to the audience. It's not the problem with the audience being stupid (although that is almost always the case when it comes to antis who make up shit or parrot nonsense from others).
The ones who can actually pay attention but dislike it aren't uncommon but their valid criticism are often drowned out by nonsense.
