I feel self conscious about my intelligence after watching anime with “genius” characters

There was a guy who could learn a language in a single day, had already written several books when he was 8 years old and was the youngest graduated from Harvard

I think yes

>smart
Smart men in anime are stupid men in real life

The person who wrote them

>light yagami
>smart

If with “smart” you mean taking random guesses but the eigenplot ensures that their guesses come true, then no.

Actual geniuses exist.
Fictional geniuses are just fantasy because the sellouts writing those stories aren't geniuses themselves and don't know how they would realistically act.
They're also used frequently to handwave flaws with the story, making it easier to accept asspulls when needed.
Good writers don't use geniuses in their works unless strictly necessary.

Yes I exist

a childhood friend of mine started to study physics at 7th grade and almost everyone at school made fun at him
on our 1st year at highschool he was taking 3th year classes
he studied russian on 2nd year and skipped 3th year to attend to college at russia

>to attend college in russia

>3th year classes
He realized how retarded his cohort was and fucked off to Russia to escape whatever retarded country you are from
im assuming american

The most unrealistic thing about anime geniuses is how handsome they are. Most geniuses in real life are uggos.

He's a genius who isn't hot

"A toast to both of these guys who literally got Departed like Matt Damon and me."

He'll take a potato chip... wait, how did the cops get on his case so fast, anyway?

Yes. Fictional characters aren't smarter than their authors.

Real geniuses exist and are even smarter than these authors realize.

Look up John von Nuemann. Or Thomas Aquinas. Or Aristotle. There are lots of them.

yes

Any hunterchad would top those pseud faggots with ease, so yes.

Chrollo is literally the best well written genius character in all fiction.

Yes, but their extremely rare.

I always hated claims like this. Aside from the obvious innate distaste for anything that makes me feel like a brainlet, the simple logistics behind it just don't make sense. Consider this, to know a language you have to be able to understand syntax, grammar, as well as the words themselves. Even if you could instantly memorize and recall everything in the same amount of time, understanding and being able to speak, let alone be fluent in a day seems well beyond hyperbole.

>There was a guy who could learn a language in a single day
Kek, you sound religious.

Speaking as this guy, I am religious so your implications about the connection between his ability to believe in stupid things and being religious don't hold up too well.

>Fictional characters aren't smarter than their authors.
You can totally write characters that are smarter than you. A lot of the intelligence we refer to can be faked and set up in a way that can indicate someone is really smart in a story. For example, in Death Note this is done through quick deductive reasoning. L is technically smarter than the author or the rest of us because he arrives at good answers to problems quickly with only limited information.

>Learn a language in a day
I mean, you might be able to memorize all the common words and get the syntax sort of down but that's a far claim from "learning a language."

O, you don't seem naive enough to be religious, user.
Maybe because you haven't started questioning the basis of your religion yet? If so I suggest doing so already, pretty sure you'd leave immediately after you realize it makes 0 fucking sense.

yes, they're called asians xD

to me as an actually smart person, reading Death Note (which I obviously did in the original Japanese, since I can read about half a dozen different languages) was a pretty frustrating experience because Light is so dumb.

If you were to give me the death note for even just one hour, the world would be completely different afterwards, and people would find a lot of dead bodies of media bosses, bankers and politicians who have committed crimes far greater than anything the small-time street criminals that Light targeted could ever conceive of.

It's a mix of personal experience and Pascal's Wager. The church can go fuck itself. I am well aware of the dubious origins of Abrahamic religions, yet I believe in a God that believes in us. One that would see humans make their own choices and face their own consequences. I could go into a lecture on the meaning of faith, but I'd rather save it for a more appropriate thread DeSu fampai.

You're a retard. That would throw the world into chaos real fucking quick. Light wanted the world to fear him and have that fear change the world. If he just struck down everyone that ever did evil then all that would be left would be confusion and chaos. Hardly an ideal world for anyone.

Yes
