I don't get what the point of pretending BC isn't on the exact same trajectory as series like Soma or Toriko is, it's the exact same trajectory except its starting peak is lower than both.

It's not battleshounen. It's basically in th wrong magazine with the wrong target demographic. Children who love Wanpiss don't read romantic comedy.
That said, 22i seems to be really popular with the editors at Jump. His own and the chief editor. (Quite unlike Oda.) Which is probably a better business foundation than catering to the magazine's reader base.
And let's be honest: Right now, Bokuben is peaking, while most other stuff in Jump loses ground.
