I think "Jane Eyre" could be a pretty good series.
Lots yuri undertones, and Jane is basically a more nuanced tsundere.

which is the one with the crazy sister locked up in an old house?

Jane Eyre has a crazy wife locked in the house. I've done some research and it appears that the "crazy woman locked up in a big house" was a pretty big cliche in the 1800s, specially because it was a real occurrence.

Carmilla

The Divine Comedy
With videogame mechanics XD

Is that the lesbian vampire story?

Frankenstein
His monster is now a Loli Cat Girl

Franken Fran?

Why not it's been turned into a musical already

Anabasis. Historical anime's always great, especially if it's an odd setting and story.

Pride and Prejudice, with the original tsunderes.

Yes. There's a VN of it that's completely for free, in case that's your thing.

Dune, just to be fun

I don't think it'd fit well in something like World Masterpiece Theater, but I'd like to see what they'd do with Snow Crash.

Catch22 with gup cameos

Harry potter

The count of montecristo

I can't recall any tsunderes in that book. Elizabeth was a bitch to Darcy, but only because he had been a dick towards her first. Jane was a pretty nice gal, and the rest of the sisters were a basic bimbo and an autistic shut-in.

Pretty sure there's an anime about that but horribly warped.

Foundation series

wife/sister
what's even the difference to a japanese mangaka...

there was actually a much better recent manga adaptation

this but it's restructured as a harem anime.

Pretty sure anime Haydeé is delicious and is my waifu

Jane Eyre sucked. Somdie Pride and Prejudice. Awful literature.

An retelling of the original tale of Gilgamesh would be pretty sweet. None of that Fate pretty boy bullshit; I want the real deal, a four feet tall demigod with an incredible beard and his half animal half man best friend. Keep all the yaoi-bait, I don't care. I want to see them bros killing monsters and making fun of Ishtar by throwing the bloody chunks of her dead bull at her, I want to cry when Enkidu dies in Gilgamesh's arms and he refuses to bury him until literal maggots start crawling out of his nose, I want to see Gilgamesh become so fearful of death as to pursue immortality, I want to see him outrun the Sun at the edge of the world until he reaches the endless sea, I want to see him confronting the only immortal man to ever exist, I want a dramatic retelling of the end of the world and him telling Gilgamesh that being immortal fucking sucks, I want to see Gilgamesh lose his chance at immortality like a dumbass and come to terms with the brevity of life, and I want to see him turn into a wise king that his people can revere and love.

Oh ffs of course it exists

Lel, you didn't know? Shame it's not that long though. Fun read anyway.
>4 feet tall
Was he?

Northanger Abbey would make for a top tier shoujo anime.

My favourite book of course.

Spangle is a historical novel written by Gary Jennings (1928–1999). Published in 1987, it follows a circus troupe known as "Florian's Flourishing Florilegium of Wonders" from the Confederate surrender at Appomattox to Europe, ending in France during the Franco-Prussian War. The book chronicles the rise of the troupe from a small "mud show" with few acts to the glittering toast of Paris, while delving into the evolving personal lives of its performers. The book is also an examination of the social structures of both post-Civil War America and Europe during a period in which the ancient system of monarchy was toppling. The main protagonist, other than the circus itself, is Zachary Edge, a former Confederate colonel embittered by war who accepts a position as the Florilegium's equestrian director. Edge's trials, both professional and personal, form the core of the plot, which details Edge's rise in the ranks of the circus in parallel to the rise of the Florilegium.

Wouldn't be a bad idea, since the Epic of Gilgamesh is missing huge chunks of the story. Gives you plenty of space for taking liberties while keeping in line with the main themes.

It was an awesome retelling, and I say that as someone who read the book. It's a little weird how they changed the ending by turning Franz gay and not making Eugéne a misandristic lesbian, but it's still good. Also, giving Pepo more to do was the best change they could do and he's the best trap I've ever seen, one I wouldn't have minded Albert sleeping with.

What the fuck? Are we talking about Jane Eyre? The only incest in that story is Jane's cousin wanting to marry her so that he could take her to India as a missionary.

Fuck you.
But you're entitled to your opinion.

Traps are gay and you're gay homo fruit boy.

Gankutsuou is still 10/10 for me, but I would've liked if it had the book ending, Mondego/Villefort/Danglars miserable or dead or crazy, while Edmond lives happily ever after with his delicious slave princess.

does Grimus count as western? i could see it being an 90s Ghibli movie.

>Was he?
He was gigantic. With each step he took he advanced three meters (almost 10 feet), and he could run 1000 kilometres (621.3712 miles) in just a few hours.

Some kids in my highschool bought this for their WOW playing professor after I showed it to them.

>This gigantic man cuckolds you on your wedding night
Huh.

Its hard to care about women attempting to defy Victorian era social mores at a snails pace. There is no real romantic tension, just banter masked under eloquence. I couldn't tell if any of the characters were even interested in one another. The women of those books are so concerned with trivial matters.

user it's a joke about the incest in manga not an accurate interpretation of Jane Eyre

Of course; you're entirely correct. I can't believe no one has done it yet. Hell, Gilgamesh is in the public domain; literally anyone could do it, as long as they knew how to draw.

You know, any of you anons read that Bible Manga?

Of course traps are gay, there's no denying that. I just wouldn't mind Albert getting beyond first base with Pepo.
I honestly found the ending of Gankutsuou to be pretty fitting; the Count's development in the show had him become so monstrous that coming back from that brink would seem like a big asspull. Remember that in the novel the duel with Albert never happened; Mercedes intervened and begged him not to kill her son; the Count even offers to let himself be killed by him so as to please her, but he eventually relents and they don't celebrate the duel at all. In the anime he doesn't care, he goes in for the kill like an absolute beast. The animated version of the Count is much more monstrous than his literary counterpart, and I believe that he received a fair ending following that change to his character.

>An retelling of the original tale of Gilgamesh would be pretty sweet. None of that Fate pretty boy bullshit
I'll never stop seething at Gilgamesh and Iskandar's designs in Fate, they should've been switched.
>four feet tall
Four feet is really short user, did you mean four meters?

Sounds pretty interesting; I'd watch that, and I'll certainly read it.

This'll be a hit with the Oreimofags

I dunno; they had me going for Rochester and Jane maybe not getting together. I did like how he went blind and lost a hand; I thought that was pretty hardcore. Still, his romance with Jane was pretty enthralling, to me at least. Can't say the same for Pride and Prejudice; I like that book mainly for the prose and the sarcasm. The plot is serviceable, but not unenjoyable.

Junji Ito did Frankenstein manga adaptation.

The Outsiders

My favourite author.
His other 3 books are also a good read.
AZTEC: The novel portrays the entirety of the life of Mixtli-Dark Cloud, who is asked by Bishop Juan de Zumárraga to tell about his life, since King Carlos I of Spain wants a chronicle of what Aztecs were like.

RAPTOR: historical novel set in the late fifth and early sixth centuries. It purports to be the memoirs of an Ostrogoth, Thorn, who has a secret: he is a hermaphrodite and takes on the name, "Thorn the Mannamavi", "a being uninhibited by conscience, compassion, remorse- a being as implacably amoral as the juika-bloth and every other raptor on this earth." travels throughout the dying Roman Empire on a quest to meet his fellow Ostrogoths , meeting several characters; among the most crucial to the storyline: Theodoric and the retired Roman legionary-turned-woodsman Wyrd, with whom he forms close friendships.

JOURNEYER: Marco is the only heir to the wealthy Polo family of Venice. Unsupervised, he freely roams the streets and canals of the city getting in trouble. When he is falsely accused of murdering the husband of his lover, he is exiled from Venice and travels east with his father and uncle to the court of Kublai Khan, Mongol emperor of the orient. Marco remains in the empire for nearly twenty years and returns home as a wealthy man. His adventures become legendary.

Most people I know that have read them, don't see past the lots of violence, gore, shock value and sex (of all kinds). But, at least these topics lure them into reading them.
