I know /m/ exists but they are more figurine than anime. I feel there hasnt been a decent mecha in a while and wondering if the industry just moved away to more isekai and mahou shoujo
Is the mecha genre dead?
Yes
>he doesn’t watch Fafner
your loss retard.
Yes, and good riddance.
Just because its mecha doesnt mean it doesnt have waifus
No, there's mecha all the time. You not liking things doesn't make them not exist.
Mecha has become less popular, and most of what we get now falls into one of two categories:
Its either Gundam shitting out their latest toy-advertisement installment, which are almost all terrible. Seriously, Gundam as a franchise gets it dick sucked constantly on /m/ but across 35+ years of Gundam only like 2 of them are actually good and the rest are a mess.
The second category of mecha shows that come out are people chasing Evangelions coattails, and they all keep making the same mistakes. They set up an interesting world and plot, get 2-3 episodes from the end, and then fucking trash every story arc that people were invested in to asspull a completely unrelated big twist ending that no one gives a shit about because we wanted to see the end of the story you spent the last 20 episodes telling. See: Franxx taking the entire plantation/APE/rebellion story and in the course of like 5 minutes tossing all of that in the garbage and saying "actually aliens are here now, lets fight them instead. Also, we didn't mention it at all before but I guess souls and magic are a thing now?"
tldr: mecha is less popular, because the only versions of it that get made in recent memory all fucking suck. The last mecha show that was actually good was, what? Gurren Lagann?
Never 4get Gurren Laggen Code geass gundam 00 and macross frontier in back to back seasons
If you haven't liked a mecha show in a decade and a half you probably just don't like the genre. Stop pretending your opinion on it is relevant.
> no you can't have quality standards, if you were a real fan you would slurp up whatever runny shit you get served with a smile on your face
Pathetic.
I did like Macross Frontier, but it didn't have the popularity needed to break outside of its own niche fanbase like TTGL did. Code Geass was good in the first season, but the second was a pretty big step down in quality.
>t. Gridman and Franx fan
Are we counting Gridman as mecha for the purpose of this conversation? Because it really isn't, its much more an Ultraman sort of thing.
I think franX was made to completely kill the genre
Gurren Lagaan killed mecha genre because it was meant to be a tribute but too many casual retards watched it as their first mecha anime so it killed everything else for them
Gurren Lagaan is cancer
/m/echa fans only want endless UC gundam shit, they hate anything that's different or interesting.
Gurren Lagaan does everything Getter did, but executed better with more likeable characters and a more coherent story. Older doesn't mean better, new things can improve on old things.
TTGL may have been made as a tribute to older super robot shows like Getter Robo, but nothing says a copy can't be better than the original.
/m/ are mostly SEA gunpla monkeys by this point, Zig Forums has better quality discussion of mecha anime.
Franxx wasn't even about the mechs, it was teen drama.
The Curious Adventures of Orange and Bat (aka Aldnoah Zero) was such a shitshow that mecha is now dreaded.
Mecha has always had teen drama.
GIVE ME THE FINAL SEASON OF FULL METAL PANIC
>boat chapters never got animated
>no Tessa suffering kino
If you think mecha is dead then magical girl anime is also dead.
TTGL babies don't deserve to have opinions on the genre.
I want good series, which mostly consist of UC Gundam (though not even all of them) and the occasional other franchise/series throughout the years. If you honestly think that Franxx is different or interesting and is actually good then you need to watch more mecha anime.
in a decade you'll get Mao suffering
Japanese youth aren't interested in mecha
it's lame nowadays
If you think Franxx is unusually terrible instead of disappointingly mediocre you also need to watch more mecha anime. It's basically just Aquarion except with the Trigger fan and hatebase attracting bonus autism
>. The last mecha show that was actually good was, what? Gurren Lagann?
Code Geass was fun but it aged like milk
A black hair gary stu protagonist is absolutely annoying now.
>I feel there hasnt been a decent mecha in a while
Granbelm wasn't that long ago.
anime budgets are going down and down, with shorter runs and mecha fighting is expensive even if it's 3DCG.
yes let's just casually forget the inherently political & anti-war aspect of gundam.
Sorry mechafags, the future belongs to tankchads.
I like mecha
>shitty WW2 in space with even less depth then LoGH
yeah no.
