You have not watched Kamen Rider Ryuki, so you don't know what you're talking. It's not even a theory, Urobuchi admitted this himself, then also went on to write Kamen Rider Gaim, which is basically Madoka with Riders, which is basically Ryuki with Magical Girls. It came full circle.

it's meant to be a twist on the genre and self-contained as only that, except like SAO, every edgelord who couldn't into good plot or good characters (looking at you Yuuki Yuuna) decided that since this show did it, so would they. It's a good show in terms of what it wants to do, and the movie is fine (if a bit controversial), but anyone saying it's a masterpiece without trying to meme for internet points is just a retard.
In terms of good "spiritual successors", Starlight Revue is the best you're gonna get. Again, don't go in expecting a it to blow your mind, but the concept is good enough.
