Why do people suck this movie's dick so hard? It's a horrid adaptation. Miyazaki bent and tore apart a perfectly character-driven love story and bent it into some hogwash about how he doesn't like propaganda and everyone in a society is brainwashed by their government, and then didn't even have the decency to have the romance be half-way satisfying. It's a fucking shame because the visuals and art direction match Diana's world very nicely.

I agree with OP that Miyazaki butchered Howl's. Jones's book was already perfect but Miyazaki had to tweak and change so much.

Ponyo is one of the best films I've ever seen. Compared to Howl's, it looks prettier, it has a simple plot rather than a convoluted one, a clever narrative if you pay close attention, and is overall more fun.
Spirited Away is the one that's actually overrated. And if you're asking me, Miyazaki wanted to stop at Princess Mononoke, but Japan is Japan, with the way they're jumping the shark with artistic creativity.
