The "confession" was only for chako, There was nothing for him to force hilself to tell anything about suicidol, the only thing he "omited" is that he knew the hobo writer, thats the only thing she could blame him for.

Yeah, this is what lie by omission means. To not speak of something you are prompted to. His relationship with Nagi is obviously something to confess, not only because Chako would want to know that, but because it's seriously bothering him. How did you read this page and think nothing of it? He takes off the blanket before he speaks just to emphasize that he is lying.
