Cardcaptor Sakura

Now THAT'S an old-school anime done right. THAT'S how you nail such a cozy, yet dramatic mahou shoujo. THAT'S how you make something for girls that boys can also enjoy.

Future creators should take note.

Sakura is the most sexualized character in anime history

Everything you say is true. But admit it. This was just another excuse to post that damn picture.

It was clearly an excuse to say the word "nail."

You're saying this like it didn't just get a sequel that's tear inducingly boring.

Clear Card doesn't exist. I never happened. CCS is still the perfect anime.

CCS is only "old-school" if you're a literal child

old school? it's only like 98/99 though...

>Future creators should take note.
Like the creators of Clear Card.

Okay, grandpas

if 99 is old school what's 60s? prehistory?

nailfag I swear to god

Worthless. There were no cute girls in the 60s.

I call it "not relevant"

>I never happened.
I wish you never happened.

Threadly reminder that the Clear Card anime is not a good representation of Clear Card itself.

regardless what you think of it as a time period it still exists. it makes no sense to not have any way to describe a time period because you don't like it. at least the dark ages were called the fucking dark ages

>There were no cute girls in the 60s.
>the template for Sakura comes from the 60s

Then lets go with that, I like it.

The fact that it was a rushed commercial for the manga is all the more reason it sucks. And is an insult to the original series. Should have waited until the manga was 75% done and then begam adapting it, like the original CCS did. Also, keep the original anime style.

Does it somehow make it not a totally unnecessary and empty sequel to a series that had a perfect ending nearly two decades ago?

Let's call the 60s uncute ages then

it might not be the first magical girl show out there, but it is certainly well polished.

Nope. It only makes everything worse. Just like the Sailor Moon reboot and Slayers revival series. Everything you love will eventually be ruined.

CLAMP has stated their intention with CCS was to revive the classic Mahou shoujo style. So basically, we wouldn't have gotten CCS if it was the first attempt at mahou shoujo.

Nope, old SM and CCS are still good. New shows being trash is a disappointment, but doesn't taint the past.

>New shows being trash is a disappointment, but doesn't taint the past.
Clear Card literally does ruin the ending the original CCS had. The actual development between Sakura and Shaoran has been scrubbed to make the new manga work. And the new anime overruled the previous series to try and tie it to the manga. It's a mess. If you have to completely ignore Clear Card exists to keep the original show good, that means the new show ruined the original.

If nothing else it shows Sakura's development into more of the direction of Clow. Clow created the Clow cards and Sakura is creating her own cards. It's also nice to see the characters again. At least if you actually give a shit about the characters and don't just want them to stick to the same archetype they were introduced as like people have been doing with Syaoran. Animefags rarely care about endings anyway so playing that card with CCS seems pretty hypocritical. And nothing is stopping you from just ignoring Clear Card if you actually don't like it. Especially since the manga and anime of CCS ended very differently. I'm just saying that the manga is not as shit as the anime was. But the anime does go out of its way to nostalgia pander which some people might enjoy, especially out of the people who treat older shows as untouchable.

That being said I would like Clamp to stop continuing old series (or if they're going to, do it with X) and make another original series since I enjoyed Kobato quite a bit.

>The actual development between Sakura and Shaoran has been scrubbed to make the new manga work
Yeah the romantic development was scrubbed that's why they go on dates in Clear Card and since Syaoran told Sakura what was going on they're working closely together to fix the problems that come up.

He really NAILED that one

>you have to completely ignore Clear Card
Conveniently it is almost completely forgettable, so that's trivial and nothing is ruined.

>If nothing else it shows Sakura's development into more of the direction of Clow. Clow created the Clow cards and Sakura is creating her own cards.
There's a major problem with this. She previously thought of the cards as her friend. She even broke down at the thought of them leaving her or getting erased by the hidden card. Then out of nowhere, Clear Card starts and all her cards can't be accessed. Does she freak out or start crying? Nope, she just shrugs and acts like it doesn't matter. Then she starts actually overwriting the cards into new cards. This gives off the message that she's just callously replacing her "friends."

I mean, what's going to happen when they get to the Mirror card and there's an actual humanoid connection? Is she just going to erase a living being who has memories and emotions for her brother? CLAMP has not thought this through (which is usual for them).
>It's also nice to see the characters again. At least if you actually give a shit about the characters
But their characters didn't grow. They actually regressed back to what they were before season 3 of the anime. They've just returned to the "will they, won't they ever grow close" dynamic they had already gotten over. This is the fundamental problem of Clear Card. Their characters are actually more bland and boring than they were in the original anime (and the manga).
>Animefags rarely care about endings anyway
Nice generalization. But it can't really be played here since CCS is one of the few anime that has a nearly perfect ending. Which most fans agreed with. The series had so much respect because they decided to end it at the best place and NOT drag it out for many more seasons, which they easily could have since it was the most popular anime ever up to that point in history. They could have turned CCS into a Naruto level milk fest, but they didn't. Then after a decade, CLAMP went "fuck it, we want to milk it now!" and made Tsubasa/Clear Card.
