I just started to use it to keep track of anime/manga , it's basically a notepad, just for that reason alone

Malfaggots watch anime for numbers, not for fun. Lists also degrade memory; instead of remembering themselves, they rely entirely on the list. I had a friend who, after asking about his favorite titles, got into mal.

It's fine to use it to track what you watch/read and I don't understand why anyone would have a problem with that unless you're desperately insecure or a literal teenager. The rest of the site is shit but just don't use the forums or read reviews. Same with letterboxd for films.

You can use other sites for the same purpose or just excel. Or you can use mal. It's fine either way. I can understand the people getting angry at completionists and consoomers but then it's not about mal anymore since the same argument applies to a notepad file.

Like others I use MAL for tracking purposes only. I used to use a .txt file but it's nice to be able to quickly cross reference staff and related shows. It's just a tool, whether it's good or bad depends on how you use it.

I have 0 friends/interactions and my lists are set to private. Pretty much the only public info are pure numbers but nobody would ever stumble onto my profile anyways. Literally just to keep track of all this shit, which I can understand if you don't want to do but it's equally understandable to want to keep a list. Even literal boomers have physically written down lists of movies they've watched on paper over the years, it has nothing to do with anime.
