Reading this with context it was very clear Oro was supposed to be the big bad and Sasuke was gonna pull the switcheroo on him and steal HIS body instead then kill Jiraiya and we get Sage Naruto vs Orofused Sasuke and the series ends there

In the end I think Sarutobi had the last laugh and you could tell Orochimaru was seething mad over it. Sure, he might be immortal, but having the use of his arms taken away might as well have been an eternal prison for him, at least until he eventually recovers from it.
