cool alien
I'm a celanimationfag through and through, I think animation went to shit when it switched to digital. If 3D animation becomes so advanced that it can mimic cel aesthetics, then sure.
The wonders of cel animation.
It introduces a bigger and deeper uncanny valley than you get with regular animation. It looks good for the most part but then you get things like that little side to side jump at 0:16 that makes you go oh shit what the fuck was that
Cheap 3DCG looks worse than cheap cel animation.
3D animation actually good if the director know what he doing.

This, anime gets away with so much dumb shit precisely because it doesn't try to emulate real life too closely. OP is peak uncanny valley, it's horrible.

3d modeling and animation have way less room for error and at times are more restrictive. Once you've made and rigged your model, your range of motion is limited to the parameters of the rig.
In a way, 3d forces you to follow real world rules more than 2d. And if something looks off in 3d, it's way more noticeable than 2d. Everything your character does and interacts with has to look seemless or people will notice. Like said, that side jump is small, but you realize that her body didn't move in the way you'd think a real person's would when side hopping. There'd be more bend in the knees and such because that motion requires a bit of athleticism due to how gravity works, but it wasn't quite there and it shows.

We're slowly getting there

People sperg out because they think it will all look like berserker 2016. There are multiple animes that pulled it off without trouble and most anime already has some cgi in them. Mechanical stuff is done almost exclusively with cgi.
I don't think 3DCG anime TV series will be good in near future since animating 3DCG also taking a fuckton time and doesn't fit with seasonal anime production time.
Pic definitely not related, right?
This one at least is poorly done, feet keep clipping through the carpet.
>cherry picking
Why were you looking at her feet though?
>animes
Because the leg movements felt off.
What do you mean?
I don't mind 3DCG for stationary objects, but actual animation should be done in 2D.
While I like Tsutomu Mizushima's work and the use of 3DCG in Girls und Panzer, the Magnificent Kotobuki to me felt like proof we're still far from appealing-looking 3DCG TV anime.
I get the pros, like how it's much more effective and efficient with creating good-looking battles with tons of moving parts and difficult camera work. It shows, both in Kotobuki and der Film. But as soon as the scene moves to anything that isn't a battle it all feels stiff and rigid, and even a decent script didn't really help the overly cheap look whenever the characters weren't flying. Whenever they ended up using 2D as a crutch with difficult human movements (i.e. Emma judo-throwing a guy over her shoulder.) you instantly see the difference, and really start to wish you didn't have to go back to the 3D character models in the next scene.
Maybe it's still just a matter of industry experience which will go away in a decade. I wonder though if there's also an issue with certain anime character designs in general not working too well with 3D models. Maybe that plays a part in separating your Etotamas from your Berserks.
Jesus Christ how horrifying.
Only studio Orange seems to make the slightest effort to make it look decent to date.
Precure has many sets of 3D modules
Some imitate the Disney 3D style, and some imitate the Japanese 2D animation style
Precure has been trying different styles of 3D modules to test children's preferences
