I agree with all your other points but at least this one is explained. They're in the most prestigious hero academy, meaning they're the cream of the crop for their generation. Aside from the talent and motivation needed to even be there, they get further set aside from the average pro by being trained by the big names. Looking at heroes as the glorified job they are in the setting, the vast majority of pros are the hero equivalent of office drones, while people who go to a top tier academy are going to be the movers and shakers in the company.
