It wouldn't be 22i if he didn't have his characters display expertise in a field he himself knows nothing about and therefore makes it look silly to anyone who does know that subject. I've suspended my disbelief before and I see no reason to stop now. If he's going to have drama at the 11th hour, I suppose it's better that it result in the culmination of the girl's studies and goals than not. Still think this is the best route.
