Also, I think it works better if the fights aren’t the focal point of the series.
What is the ideal length for a series with an overpowered protagonist?
About Hellsing length
If the MC is truly OP as all hell and there is almost no chance of them losing, then it shouldn't be a very long run as no long term antagonist will be around for very long unless the main character allows them too.
So if the series is focused on this conflict, then it should be short, but if the series has other priorities than you could have someone who is op as shit and keep it going for a while so long as you never subvert the MC being op as shit so conflict is never direct.
I feel that One Punch Man has gone too long, and it has become more of a regular battle shonen but with an OP protagonist.
like 50 episodes desu
Pleb filter show
Do you mean chapters?
So what's its already been
6 episodes or less Probably just 3
Hellsing did the OP protag great by putting style over substance. However, it too got pretty tiresome as the focus shifted into the subordinates who have risks involved in every fights....which kinda condenses the MC to just half of the show.
Playing a game with cheats is fun only for 20 minutes then it become very tiresome. Make it worse by the fact that wish fulfillment fantasies are catered to the lowests of the low
6 ep might be too short, though not by much.
Mob Psycho 100 was probably the perfect length and ended on a really fucking high note. I almost wish ONE would continue it but there isn't really much else you could do in that story other than expand it and do all the same gags over and over again.
obviously it should be a one shot like the hero's power.
Mob has a lot of SoL elements, so that may be a contributing factor that justifies its length.
If you're writing something about an undefeatable protagonist and you don't have some SoL elements showcasing their daily lives and how their overpoweredness affects it, you're doing it wrong in my opinion. It lends credence to the character instead of focusing on the power wank of having suck an OP MC. The best part of Mob Psycho 100 wasn't the fights Although they're great too, it was Mob's character development.
About 7 inches.
Wait, what was the question?
Agree
Why need the question when you got the answer?
Imagine a sequel about Reigen's kid. Big Fish style. That'd be cool.
I'm currently reading a 100+ chapter long series with an OP protagonist and I've accepted that I need to turn my brain off when it comes to the fights. As other people here have pointed out, the best parts are seeing the MC interact with others normally and I also like it when he scales his power level down to try and blend in. His almighty power just takes away almost all the conflict though.
Why not just a Reigen sequel? Mob went off to high school or college and Reigen is stuck using Dimple powers to exorcise spirits. In reality though, it's over. I don't want it ruined. This panel is probably one of the most satisfying endings in all of manga in my opinion, for obvious reasons that aren't worth pointing out.
What's Big Fish?
Infinity.
Big Fish is a novel/film about a dying father whose kid only knew him as a man he could never connect with because he was always telling tall tales about himself to try to make him seem grandiose. Over the course of the whimsically-told narrative it's found out that even though the father enlarged the fantasy of the stories he really did have a bunch of adventures and made a lot of friends. You can see how that might work in a story about the child of Reigen.
The issue there is you would need an older Mob, and i'd prefer that to stay left up in the air. The only thing you could do with him is make him Psychic Jesus at this point, and that's just boring. Either that or make him lose his powers, which would be less boring while ruining the point of the character in the first place.
The book sounds interesting maybe i'll give it a read.
Shit, I remember watching that several years ago
You could just have Mob only be mentioned briefly and never actually come into the story. Like Lina Inverse's sister in Slayers. I mean, he's probably just living a normal life as a civil servant in the future or something anyway.
the last panel kind of indicates that he's no longer afraid to use his powers anymore, even against people. Could you ever imagine Mob actually using his powers to prank Reigen at any other point in the series? He's almost a totally different person and i don't see that aspect changing.
I actually came up with a good way to get past that though. Mob is dead when Reigen's son is born, using too many psychic powers to save people as an adult shortened his lifespan. I wonder who Reigen would possibly name his son after..........
NOOOOOOO ONLY CONFLICT POSSIBLE IS FIGHTING OOGA BOOGA STYLE AIIEEEEEEEEEEEE
Reigen has a kid?
user, we’re literally talking about how fights may not be the focal point of these series. Read the thread, you tard.
No, this is a hypothetical.
Defo shorter than this piece of shit. MC's never explore their power or setting in interesting ways and it's always the most obvious shit or a tropey loophole exploit that four other stories have gone through.
For overpowered MC's it's always "Hey this skill that's universally labeled useless is super powerful." or "A god gave me this" and the story and exploration of setting always suck a massive cherry red dog dick.
I'm a bad person and I meant to use this picture.
>Defo shorter than this piece of shit
Tanjiro’s not overpowered.
the ideal older mob would be a respected gym teacher that passively keeps ghosts and shit away from the school with his presence but has been enjoying his fitness-based job so much that he occasionally forgets he's the most powerful psychic in the world. being pk messiah or losing his powers would both undermine the core message of "its ok to be weird but you don't have to let your weirdness dictate your path in life"
Are you talking about OP’s series? It’s not really that long, and it hardly has any fights. It’s mostly MC just tricking and abusing people in ironic ways.
Actually, not much would even change if you take away MC’s power, he would just have to be a bit sneakier about it.
Nah I was making reference to .
MC is ostensibly god but the story somehow manages to take that and be supremely boring. I feel like i'm watching anime blues clues. There's zero conflict and no stakes.
