Shamo, I reread it a while back and honestly I even enjoyed most of the arcs that people say were shit.

Hajime no Ippo and Holyland are better than those. There's also series like Tough. If you like boxing specifically there's Money Fight and "RRR" (Rock n Roll Riki), Rikudou for more serious. If you like delinquent stuff, you've got Crows, Worst, and Out.

Grappler is kino in a nostalgic kind of way
Son of Ogre and Dou 2018 are just awesome
Dou is good but not great
New Grappler is just meh and kinda skippable

Like if you look at the raiding party the only dude there who's really out there is Sengoku, flash forward twenty chapters and they look more like a circus troupe then a gang

Where the fuck did this contrarian opinion come from? New Grappler is fucking amazing and arguably the best out of them all.
Convict arc is pure kino, all the boys come together for the first time to fight a most sinister outside threat, the fights and character development are top notch and some of the most iconic moments in the series like Gaia giving PTSD to Sikorsky happen there. Hanayama vs Speck is easily a top 5 fight in the whole series.
Raitai arc is pure fun and introduces a whole bunch of great characters, Kaku vs Yujiro is easily the best fight in the series up to that point. Retsu shenanigans are top notch as well.
Ali Jr arc is the most hilarious thing in the series, just pure entertainment from start to finish.
Some of the best Yujiro moments happen in New Grappler.
We also get the sex chapter, literally the pinnacle of Itagaki's writing.
This is like those reddit memes that keep being spammed all around wanking Speck for some godforsaken reason, it's the same tier of ''Akshually here's a special snowflake take on something just for the sake of being edgy and unique''.

Some of the later arcs went on really bizarre tangents but overall Ryo's journey was really compelling and well-told. The guys who complain about muh gritty manga being ruined just wanted Ryo to rape more chicks or whatever and don't care about anything else going on.

I am reading the first baki sequel, the one with the criminals, but my god is so fucking shit, i fucking loved the first series but these guys are so fucking shit, i know the following stories are a lot better but as far as the first sequel goes, do it get better? Im at chapter 156, the torunament just started again so i am hoping some good stuff happends again.
