dragon ball started off with little kids, they only grew up in z and even then there were kid characters.
I think it's becaue modern shōnen doesn't do it like dragon ball z, where they have a sequel where everyone is an adult.

I noticed this when I was a teenager and I hated it despite my age. It didn't make any sense. They introduce a character that is powerful because they trained for 40 years. and then that character is outpowered / defeated by the 16 years old main character. It just didn't make any sense. Same thing with back story and lore. They tell you about the history of the world and wars that lasted a generation. And then when the main character has to go through a war arc, the """war""" lasts anywhere from a day to a week. A battle basically. And if you're lucky the show might get a timeskip of 1 or 2 years. So now the main character will save the world while he is 17 or 18. They don't make the villains a bunch of teens so I don't know why they do it with the good guys.
and yeah shoutout to Dragon Ball for having the balls to age their protagonist. All the way to making him a grandpa too (ultra based)
