This is just simile and metaphor laden about the themes of RE:ZERO, inspired from watching the movie. I am writing this while high, and confused with myself as to why i've watched it, but brimming with words nonetheless.
Puck is the idealized, active self. Emilia is the actualized self filtered through a feminine set of priorities. The enemy demon (administrator? vengeance?) is opposed to the self. Subaru is also the actualized self, but filtered through a masculine set of priorities. The witch of Greed is an idealized, passive self with an optimized and extremely fine tuned set of priorities. All demons and witches are driven by a single pure and complete and incorruptible drive. The paragons represent the drive of a single cardinal sin and as such can be driven to excess, except in the cases of those who maintain strict enough control. All entities previously mentioned can be considered demons of various tiers/level of power/ability/means through which to impact the world to achieve their goals.
The demons/cardinal sin bishops are in an internal conflict between the ones who exercise control and the ones who do not. Puck is most likely a Subaru who made a pact with Greed. This was done to become a Spirit driven by need to protect the one person he cares about the most by any means necessary, and gets ~phenominal cosmic power~ in order to do it, as long as he abides by certain restrictions. These restrictions force him to love purely and without possible ulterior motive. For a long time the years wear on them, going back to what is probably the very start of civilization taking root. Emelia/Envy and the witch of Greed share similar circumstances, with the witch having restrictions on how they can interact with the world in exchange for how steadfastly they control their sphere of influence around events. //Clarify// Emelia/Greed and Puck/Subaru are essentially playing 5d chess with each other over how to best sort the world out into something equitable to everyone, in a very Homura/Madoka way. In this case though the time loops are mutually withstood and handled cooperatively. This avoiding Homura's obsession/loneliness spiral and creating something that can lead to the best outcome for all involved without relying on unhealthy cycles.

(f@keout TLDR (this will sound insane if you have never analyzed your own gender with any sort of depth even once so far in life) Reading Subaru as transed gendered (in any which way, the world is your oyster) is nigh the only way to appreciate this while also appreciating the full scope of the (easily built and projected upon, most likely by design, oh god now i have to go into what I think this is designed for, augh.) story. Most likely written with the intent to show teen boys how to act even if they're natural self obsessed smartasses like a lot of them can be, Subaru is meant to be a role model, and the reveal of Puck being Subaru? Alternate timeline Subaru? is supposed to create a context/moment of epiphany/fuller understanding of how to interact with the world. This would enable you to get some sort of step closer to checking yourself before you get anywhere close to fucking up badly out of some sort of huge teenager-life crisis. Help redirect the flow of your life somewhere better if you're veering towards asshole. Having simple drives is good if you choose them wisely. Don't be a creep. Respect everyone around you. Devote yourself to the next step of your goals wholeheartedly and without ulterior motive. Be honest and upfront with everyone you value in your life. Disregard the dialog in which Subaru talks about women like another species with other male characters as an annoying not-canon event to send an angry letter about. RE:ZERO is about making the world have less assholes in it in the future. (First, however, people woud have to actually think about the things they consume with any sort of depth and stop treating story like it is impermeable always.) The demon horse, outside of its spiteful host, behaves much more purely symbolic of vengeance after leaving. It acts almost like a computer program driven to repel intruders/meddlers of power. May be god. Its unclear.

Maybe its all a simulation. Maybe we're all a simulation. Who cares, doesn't have an effect on what needs doing. Demons/Spirits/Gods/Administrators/Authority essentially minmax every possible aspect of your or theirself to align it towards a certain goal, with strengths and weaknesses to reflect what's sacrificed. The more complicated the goal, the more complicated the demon can be, with god as the absolute basic *vengeance*. Puck might have been sent back to when sentient life was first gaining a foothold, growing wiser and changing forms and demeanor like clothes over centuries and centuries and centuries. Yes, you heard me, dig deep enough into any story and you find more homestuck. Damn it. The end result is apparently much more deifically powerful gods than those from ghibli films doing particularly enrapturing dnd campaigns at each other.

TLDR RE:ZERO is about 5 dimensional chess madoka magica which is about lesbianism which is about transition which is about catholicism which is about madoka magica again Subaru is Sora is FFXIV's WoL is Frisk Undertale is Homura is Kaworu is essentially any project-on-me type of protagonst/deuragonist who also has depth and goals separate from initial expectation and can only viably progress and is stuck in a chaos loop. FFxiv's Fray is Esteem is the Void is Trauma is Fray is John Darksoul Subaru looked at Feris and saw themselves as a catgirl looking back and just sort of cataloged that to analyze later. Observe the past self with humor. //expand// All right, see to the rest, Subaru! -Puck Majora's Mask Subaru=Sloth (Path of Least Resistance) Satella=Greed (desires control, to make the world adhere to her will so that it can be kept safe) Emilia=Envy (isolation, unwarranted persecution) Puck=Pride (the confidence of a coiled spring ready to fire to devastating effect) Gluttony=Castlevania Oni Flea Man (eat it eat it) Wrath (incites in others, primarily) Lust (not fucking with this one. did not take note of it. would both incite and act on sin in a more metaphorical than physical sense. The most potent demon is Subaru; the first time he dies and refuses is the catalyst for everything that happens after. As the protagonist, and host of the time loop, he is the ultimate force of change in the story. Acting as a catalyst falls within the path of least resistance. Pursuit of the feminine, to both know and be, is represented by Emilia, who is central to Subaru's driving motivations. She is defined through and inspires envy. Instinct, whimsy, intuition, and the true self are represented by Puck. He protects what is valued with exactly the necessary force and expenditure, and otherwise pursues immediate needs and desires. They have an abundance of confidence, God this shit is sounding like a tarot reading like many good things, probably good on accident

if someone wants to use any of this for college philosophy become platostatle type classes i do not care whether or not you do. Do not tell me. I would rather you just created something inspired by the good shit and leaving out the bad shit of this weirdass show. Can't seem to be able to tell where this show wants to lie between the spectrum of "genuinely respects women" and "give love interest a maid outfit and a baby face", at any time, ever. Remember to paraphrase and ideally completely restructure. I am jealous of you.
thats all this story is about

It feels like someone on acid that just watched Madoka and just finished reading Re:Zero posting on Zig Forums, but the bit about Puck is kind of interesting

how can they be actualized if they never DO anything
Has the WoE attack on the Tower been in the LN yet? It seems that it'd be good for an illustration.

Can anons in the last thread enlighten me on how Subaru's mulitple books of dead reject the RBD=Parallel Universe hypothesis? And just how can Od Laguna record events that should not have happened in the current universe?
Colton Gray
>And just how can Od Laguna record events that should not have happened in the current universe? You just answered your own question.
The notion would be like this. If you have a book that is recorded/written on your death then Subaru shouldn't have any books if he is jumping to entirely new world, as he has never died there. In an alternate sense you might consider that he has one book, that records the life of Subaru before a different person from another world's mind just jumped over and deleted/replaced him. If you assume the tower itself transcends across multiple worldlines/universes then most of the people he knows and who's books he looked for would have multiple. A fairly basic example would be Meili, the entire party has wiped a few times, him strangling her isn't the first time she's been killed, but she only had a single book. If it's recording everyone's deaths across all universes then Ram, Emilia, Betty, Meili, etc.. would all have a lok of books when he actually looks for them and they would have books currently despite never having died in this universe.
James Rodriguez
If they were in parallel universes, he'd only have one book, with no deaths in it (while his 'death' would be logged in each parallel universe he's left behind). The fact he's got multiple volumes in turn shows that he's exsiting in the exact same universe as the one he began in; it's that he's not hopping along the reality axis of dimensionality, but being set back along the time axis of dimensionality. The reason why Od Laguna can do it is because it's less of a 'being' and more of 'the system'. All mana, factors, spirits etc pass through Od; hence, when he's returning by death, that too (and the accompanying time warp back) is logged by Od.

I don't think the multiple volumes for Subaru really proves it's a single timeline by itself. Subaru's soul keeps its scars and has a connection with his deaths when he RbD, so even in a multiple timeline scenario anyone else's books shouldn't come along for the ride. The information could be theoretically be logged on restoration from another timeline, just like Echidna knowing how he died.
>just like Echidna knowing how he died. She's literally just reading his mind. Subaru isn't the only character that has actually died and come back. Felix says he resurrects from the dead, Elsa actually dies and revives, Reinhard did, Al, etc... would they all have multiple volumes of books recording each of those deaths?
Carson Phillips
Echidna knows how he died because she can look into his memories. If Od Laguna also works like this, then how does it divide the memories into different volumes, but not according to the 1 book=1 death principle?
