I don’t really have an issue with this pairing. His care for her seemed more than simple romantic attachment, it was kinda parental. He wanted her to be safe and to live her life. I think he would have been disappointed to wake up and find her having faithfully watched over his veggie body all those years instead of living a normal life. After all that time she was probably gonna be very different anyway. Besides at the end isn’t it implied he gets with that other girl? It’s not such a bad ending to me.
