Soul Eater Volume 1 Storytime

Happy Spooktober Zig Forums!
In celebration I'm starting a spooky scary storytime full of ghosts and ghouls and witches and such!

>What is Soul Eater?
Set at the "Death Weapon Meister Academy", the series revolves around three teams, each consisting of a weapon meister and (at least one) weapon that can transform into a humanoid. Trying to make the latter a "death scythe" and thus fit for use by the academy's headmaster Death, they must collect the souls of 99 evil humans and one witch, in that order; otherwise, they will have to start all over again.

I'm an animeonly here and I hear the manga winds up pretty different, so lets find out how true that is.
Please tag spoilers, if it's my first time reading, I'm sure it's others' first time as well.
