For all of those who think Rock Lee should've been the protagonist, give me the reasonings why
Alexander Myers
Aiden Scott
He cute.
Jonathan Moore
Anyone could've made a better protagonist than naruto sasgay and sakura, even chouji
Owen Peterson
They did so dirty to him it's almost comical
Chase Reed
You think Lee wishes he was kissing Sasuke instead?
Nathan Ross
I despise the Naruto series with a passion, but I really warmed up to Rock Lee as well as Ino-Shika-Cho trio. If the series had been these outcast kids with no special lineage or demon trapped in them, it could've been a stellar series about friendship, teamwork, innovation, pushing past your limits, and heart.
Rock Lee is a genuinely good kid. He strives to make himself a better man and prove that you can get by with your limited specialty. Rock worked everyday to prove to himself and others that Taijutsu only could prove his merit as a ninja and as an individual.
That is a better message to kids: Work hard, improve yourself everyday, and never stop believing in your own efforts.
Grayson Parker
chouji vs jirobo was a decent fight
Nicholas Diaz
Gai get off the internet
Christian Parker
Nah I don't like Gai. Wouldn't have minded if Kakashi (but without a Sharingan eye transplant) was Rock's teacher along with Chouji, Ino, and Shikamaru.
Lincoln Evans
Is there another way he could get Sasukes genetics?
Charles Garcia
Because he doesn't have asspulls and actually worked hard the most
Angel Taylor
But he already had his own show and manga.
Adrian Perry
>Rock Lee is a genuinely good kid. He strives to make himself a better man and prove that you can get by with your limited specialty
I could say the same thing about Naruto, just replace "get by with your limited specialty" with "overcoming the prejudice and social rejection"
Austin Wood
THIS
I remember WAY back in junior high in 2004, so many fucking Narutards argued that just because you didn't see Naruto train as hard as Lee does, it doesn't mean it wasn't true. Fucking Lee could even outperform Goku in training.
Cooper Thomas
I'm a speedreader who can't stand people being better than me
Dylan Thomas
He's got Harry Potter syndrome. He had a fucking cheat code locked in his body even if it was a savage demon that terrorized the Leaf Village. Same with Sasuke with MUH SHARINGAN GENETIC INHERITANCE.
Naruto being hated despite having a super special reservoir of power and eventually becoming a respected badass reeks of protagonist exceptionalism.
Chase Clark
Being a hardworker is not only doing 500 push-ups and 1000 runs. I wouldn't say that Naruto worked harder than Lee, because he wasn't, but overcoming your social status and never going back on your word are just as admirable for me.
Jack Bennett
>Backstory is cleaner by not being tied to such an important event and people, so it prevents retcons from dominating.
>Is more relatable because he isn't cartoonishly hated by everyone in the village. He's just ignored for being a loser and wanting to prove he isn't one.
>Fighting style is designed as simple so all the complaints of Naruto lacking jutsus isn't an issue for Lee since there's an in universe reason for it.
>Because he's a real hardworker and his abilities have a give and take nature, his wins are more rewarding.
>Because he's lacking in fundamental areas, it gives his teammates a chance to shine, strengthening the team aspect.
>Has had a year long rivalry with his rival compared to the few months Naruto and Sasuke had, so if Neji were to defect, it'd be more reasonable and emotional for Lee to try hard to save him.
Cooper Thompson
>was friends with ino-shika-cho
>bullying was shown to be nowhere as bad as gaara's
Aaron Flores
>don't like Guy
>like Rock Lee
Absolute shit taste
Carson Clark
These are genuinely good reasonings. Would you change the narrative of the story so it fits Lee's character, or the general direction would stay the same?
Blake Powell
How are the Gates not an asspull?
Parker Scott
>was friends with ino-shika-cho
Enough of this meme, getting put in detention with shikamaru and chouji once does not mean they were friends
Dominic Price
>to the few months Naruto and Sasuke had
Part 1 of Naruto is only 2-3 months in universe, the training for the chunin exams is a month and the tsunade arc lasts 3 weeks.
Naruto and Sasuke barely had a month together.
Juan Bell
I would say it's not an asspull because the audience had an explanation of how it works. But yeah, as far as the mechanics go, the gates look like a generic anime power-up
William Gonzalez
He seemed to be chill with Choji though
Logan Fisher
There's implied downtime between Genin Training and Land of Waves, and then more implied downtime between Land of Waves and Chunin, pretty sure. The last three arcs happen right after each other but that doesn't mean the entire timeline is contained in just those arcs.
Julian Fisher
So the only thing that makes something not an asspull is that the audience is offered some kind of mechanical explanation, correct? Then nothing is an asspull.
Matthew Anderson
Not him but the overall structure of Orochimaru into Akatsuki into Obito/Madara can still work well enough. You just remove the absolute garbage that is the "redeeming Sasuke" plot and you're golden.
In a way, the Uchiha being antagonists in a Lee -centric story works even better than the original, because then it's a set up from the initial premise of a talentless scrub rising up to equal prodigies, to this ascended talentless scrub clashing with the ultimate manifestation of of entitlement and talent: the Sharingan/Rinnegan. Just remove Kaguya and you got a complete package.
Asher Flores
It's never implied to be more than a few days though.
Levi Baker
Naruto was such a cute boy
