I don't think BGS was terrible but I didn't find it memorable or unique because of that.
Although BGS is most similar to Monogatari, oregariu sorta does it and so does haruhi.

BGS obviously follows Monogatari's structure. You have short arcs where girls deal with a specific supernatural phenomenon that represents her psyche. In Oregairu they help all types of people with all sorts of problems and the story isn't structured in clearly delimited arcs. In Haruhi the main cast doesn't help anyone. They just confront supernatural shenanigans by themselves. Not to mention BGS has the "main character starts dating the first girl from the get to" thing. Who also happens to be the same kuudere/tsundere type of girl in both shows.
