Pre-2000s Anime Thread

Sure smells like another backlog season

So fuck it, what pre-2000 anime and manga have you've been watching/reading recently?

this is actually the best season in a while unless you're a cynical fuck that doesn't like anime anymore.

I've almost exclusively been working on newer anime lately, but I did watch the second half of the first episode of Shamanic Princess last night when I couldn't sleep. That anime has an almost magical effect on me, it makes it so hard to stay awake.
Not sure how well it worked though, because my eyes were closing themselves automatically while I was watching but I still didn't immediately fall asleep when I closed it again.

Yeah for once I think one should be happy to get a lot of new anime in schedule.

F A M my wife.

Struggling through:
Those who Hunt Elves. 8 eps. Kinda OK I guess.
Captain Tylor. 5 eps in. Man I hate the imbecile MC already.
Rayearth. I remember liking it back in the 90s, but its now a chore to watch. Just started 2nd part.

Recently finished Blue Seed (real nice) and Nadia (good except for those island eps).

In the backlog:
Princess Nine, Saber Marionette (only watched 9 eps of J years ago), Maze, Bakuretsu Hunters, Project Ako, CatGirl Nukunuku (only watched the OVAs, Ive heard TV and Dash! are shit, but oh well, we'll see), Dirty Pair, Berserk.

Just finished the first volume of Fourteen. Holy shit, this feels like a fever dream, everything is so surreal and stupid I can't help but want to read more. Nice chimaeras by the way.

It looks like a mix of an American comic and Go Nagai.
I 'forgot' to continue Rayearth at some point for the same reason but maybe I'll restart it someday. Cute F a m!

I love Kukuri!

wish I could rape Kukuri and force her to become my child bride ;_;

your in for a wild fucking ride. Sadly I dropped it when the scanlation sites started skipping entire chapters or only had a single page for unknown reasons

>Sure smells like another backlog season
The fuck? Not at all. Fuck off back to plebbit or wherever the fuck you came from, casual piece of shit.

I need to get back into this, sadly all the episodes from the point she starts the tower training are wildly desynced audio-wise and I forgot the ffmpeg stuff needed to correct it

got drunk the other night and watched otaku no video with my friend who had never seen it, ended up pulling my figures out of storage and new i have posters up on the wall again..happens everytime i watch it.

Ah sweet the nostalgia wank thread
Gonna watch Cowboy bebop for the 30th time yo!

Is Revolutionary Girl Utena worth a watch? This is coming from a massive Evafag.

Everything past episode 30 is mostly filler so you can watch the 2017 anime instead to see the rest of the story

I wasn't hugely into it but it wasn't torturous, so I think it may have been worth it just for its impact.
However at the time I was watching it I didn't understand a lot because it was so deep.
One thing that's really neat is the character designs, they really look like real people, well they are a bit different but you can tell exactly how they'd look in real life which is something I may not have experienced in other anime.

It's like a b-movie on a manga format

she looks like she's waiting to be picked up by a fat middle aged salaryman

>I 'forgot' to continue Rayearth at some point
>"He is Zagatos brother"
>hikaru: "zagato's......brother?"
>umi: "zagato's......brother?"
>fuu: "zagato's......brother?"

>"these are the three kingdoms invading us, Autozam, chizeta, faramsomething."
>h: "autozam.........."
>u: "......................chizeta.........................."
>f: "........................farsomething..............."

this on every single plot point. fuck pre 2000 anime.
>inb4 zoomer
1982fag here, this shit tires quickly.

I'm watching Patlabor The New Files since I realised that I forgot to watch it after I finished the TV series years ago. I just finished watching episode 9, "Versus", which mainly features Kanuka and Kumagami squaring off against each other while drunk. I thought it was a brilliant piece of self-aware writing to feature the antagonism of two characters who are supposed to fill the exact same role, though in slightly different ways.

That's a really comfy anime taste user.
TWHE... That anime has something I can't quite explain. I used to watch it on TV back in the day and I loved it. I still watch a random episode like once a year and gives me a nostalgic feeling.

>CatGirl Nukunuku
I remember one episode (maybe it was TV or Dash!) where every character had a little song to sing, and it was only when Nuku Nuku absolutely killed it singing her song that I realised it was Hayashibara Megumi.

if this is a backlog season for you i very strongly urge you to up your valium

Mahoujin Guru Guru and Akazukin Chacha are some of the best anime ever made.

I've been watching You're Under Arrest and Golden Boy lately.

Not a huge fan of the animation quality for YUA tho since it got major downgrade when it aired for TV program.

I've been meaning to start Golden Boy again, since I don't remember the last time I saw it.
