Diebuster is better than Gunbuster, is it not?
Diebuster is better than Gunbuster, is it not?
No. Gunbuster has the best ending I've seen in my 2 decades of watching anime. I will die on that hill. fite me faget
It isn't. But that doesn't mean it isn't easily one of my favorite anime. Gunbuster and Diebuster are about as close to perfect as you can get in 12 episodes IMO
Gunbuster was a big budget production, diebuster was a much lower budget, longer 'season' produced by people that had nostalgia boners from the 80s but did it in the 2000s style.
I can never compare them, I just love them both in their own right
Diebuster was complete shit. So bad I mentally just discarded the whole thing after watching it.
Will we get some Sirius girls for Top3?
diebuster's good parts rely too much on gunbuster
no
I never watched Gunbuster but Diebuster blows it out of the water and it isn't required to watch it at all.
>setting and cast is entirely different
I'll give you the ending I guess but I liked it as additional payoff for Gunbuster as well
Now this is trolling
No it's trash. Seen it multiple times. Only good part is the opening which is blatantly better than the entire show. I don't even mean that in a joking way or just because the song is catchy or something, it's geniunely more powerful and expresses more real pathos than all 6 episodes. Nono flying away and disappearing in the OP is perfect, her walking on a different plane than everyone else is a more cogent expression of her role in the show than any of the dialogue or framing in the episodes is, the recap footage when edited in that rhythm and to Groovin Magic also takes on an oddly charming beauty. It's incredible.
The show though is so weightless it's impossible to get emotional over, the fights feel useless and obligatory (the original had them!!!), while the character drama is so scripted that watching the show feels like reading an analysis of it, and the callback ending which is at first sweet and endearing has become flat over the years.
Diebuster's more stylistic and a bit more polished but it doesn't carry the same emotional weight as the original.
Gunbuster told one story and it told it well, whereas Diebuster kind of meandered around with a bunch of different bits and pieces.
No, but that doesnt mean Diebuster is bad, its just not near perfect as Gunbuster
Gunbuster 100/10
Diebuster 8/10
I am summoned.
Sadly no. Diebuster is shit by comparison. Gunbuster had far better visuals mainly due to it's higher production values and more complex shading.
My version didn't have this :(
/thread
Not even close. Gunbuster was good, but then had an incredible ending. Diebuster was bad to meh all the way through.
i kind of feel the same way. Diebuster is good, but it is a compliment to Gunbuster, whereas Gunbuster stands on its own.
Gunbuster is probably the most overrated series I've ever watched.
Diebuster's ending complimenting Gunbuster's amazing ending made it jump from a 5/10 to an 8/10 to me.
Fuck, I hope I get to see another ending as wonderful as Gunbuster's again in any form of media before I die.
Anyone who believes that doesn't understand Gunbuster. The point was for how humanity is in the future to be left ambiguous. Because we don't know how humanity will be in over 10000 years. Have we seen how much we evolved during the last 10000 years? Now take into account that we evolve exponentially. Yeah. We don't know what humanity is like in the future but it survived in some capacity and that's what matters, that's why the ending is as impactful as it is, it's aimed at the survival instinct.
And then you have Diebuster which depicts humanity in the future as just "us with more technology". Which was already the case in Gunbuster since it already takes place in the future. You get the feeling 100 years have gone by, not fucking 10000. We really didn't need to know how humanity is when they came back, especially if it's to make the answer this boring.
Watch Steins;Gate
Newbuster when?
Gainax is pretty much dead so probably never
Yeah I felt that Diebuster's first three episodes didn't connect as well in the larger picture. I think it was the third episode that focused on the twintails girl that stuck out like a sore thumb the most to me. She had no plot relevance and maybe five lines total after that. I'm not sure it was the best way to show that the pilots were bratty kids and treated buster machines like toys. The big payoffs in Diebuster rely heavily on having watched Gunbuster before. That's not a bad thing if you think of them as two parts of a whole but comparisons of which is better will always run against that issue.
Gaina announced that they would do it awhile ago, but it's probably never happening like Uru in Blue
I didn't really get what was going on in diebuster like half the time, plot felt like random meandering
I still say its better than diebuster to piss off people on here but yeah
*better than gunbuster
I've seen S;G and it's definitely not as overrated. S;G is regarded high among normalfags but it's still a really solid story and a great adaptation.
Every single oldfag and "moefag" hater gushes about Gunbuster yet the only exceptional things about it are the soundtrack, final episode's ending and some actions scenes. The fact that the final episode presents itself in such a faggy, artsy way gives dumb hipsters fuel for retarded arguments. Black and white stills in anime are fucking retarded no matter how you look at it, especially when it's supposed to be the climax of the series.
The first episode is great too
It's a continuation of Gunbuster, 10 000 years later. In case you missed literally all of the hints and it being spelled out at the very end, the aliens that attack for most of the series are part of Nono and the dumb thots are the ones who free one of the actual old aliens from Gunbuster which ends up fucking everything up.
