Say ONE good thing about English dubs
Other urls found in this thread:
cowboy bebop, samurai champloo, and space dandy's dub mog their sub counterpart.
FLCL is one of the only English dubs I think is better than the Japanese version but it's more because the Japanese voice acting seems pretty low effort to me.
some of them are funny and i like those ones
Haruhi dub is good
She was best girl
The psg english dub is far superior to the Japanese version
objectively false
I can understand them? Most of the time anyway.
Dubs have improved significantly, and there are actually a lot of pretty decent dubs these days, but people don't always give them a chance because of the history of bad dubs.
They really haven't improved. They still almost universally sound stilted and out of place.
They can be checked for derailment purposes.
i mean watanabe said it himself that the best way to watch bebop is watching the dub. cmon now.
I don’t have to watch them.
you are insane and need new ears.

Does the Japanese one sound this retarded to a native Japanese?
why is it that all of the anime people often claim have good dubs are entry level shit?
maybe because a show with a good dub is easier for someone who's not into anime to get into than suddenly watching something in japanese with english subs
I know a lot of dubbed dialogue can feel really stilted, but when they do it right it’s like magic for my ears. Hearing something in my own language, it’s a lot easier to get certain subtexts and emotions out of certain lines if they’re done right. Not to say I can’t recognize some of that in Jap voices, but it just doesn’t feel the same. I’ve noticed that for most dubs this happens more often on the quieter and more casual lines. They usually aren’t able to do bombastic speeches or anguished declarations very well in this regard. But something like a somber monologue is where it can really shine.
so you're saying the strength of their dub could contribute to a lower barrier of entry? i guess that makes sense. the dubs for bebop and stuff like that are just as shit as any other dub in my eyes though. i can't see anything in the dubbing in particular that would stand out enough to make any specific anime more approachable in that sense.
if something is high profile then it made a bunch of money which means they can justify hiring good VAs, most of the Studio Ghibli dubs are literally done by Walt Disney while the rest (except Grave of the Fireflies which is the one shitty Ghibli dub) are high quality GKIDS
revy actually cursing was pretty good
Plebs get a vastly inferior product and are too stupid to realize it, which makes me happy.
Sounds like a bunch of random fat white chicks they hired though craigslist.
Dragon Ball and FLCL have great dubs.
Vic was a perfect Edward Elric
Can't speak for Dandy, but he's right about the other two.
Hellsing and Gurren Lagann had superlative dubs. That said, I do think that most dubs are dogshit, and Funimation hasn't made a good dub since Panty and Stocking.
Only one that's true for is Bebop. Dubs of Dandy and Champloo gave me an aneurysm they're so bad. Dandy's dub actor is one of the most uninspired, talentless hacks I've ever had the displeasure of listening to. Completely robbed Dandy of his soul.
Cowboy Bebop is the only passable and acceptable dub. Full stop.
Agreed. Even though most of them are still a bit weaker and I still find myself watching subbed more often, I think the difference in overall quality between subs and dubs has shrunk a lot in the past 15-20 years.
There have been some fantastic dubs recently, with pic related becoming one of my all-time favorites.
I wouldn't be able to watch space dandy without the Japanese narrator.
if it wasnt for dubs you fags wouldnt even know what anime was
BACCANO!
