Joe would beat the shit out of that bum.
Apparently not: ippo.fandom.com
Joe was a rank 1 world bantam weight, Ippo is like rank 10 world featherweight. Ippo is two weight classes higher but who knows.
Yup, that's me. I'm getting knocked the fuck out by the legend — Joe Yabuki-san. What an honor.
fuck no
ippo's survived a two-ton punch without falling over, joe ain't got shit on him
Ippo canonically has the biggest dick, so Joe loses by default.
Probably not, but Rikiishi would
I feel like Joe's in a lower weight class than Ippo? Also Joe relies too heavily on cross counter, would backfire against a dude built around tanking hits to the face like Ippo is
I like AnJ more as a story but in a fight Ippo would crush the dude
Does joe have yamato damashii? Does he have O X Y G E N?
Joe is a way better overall boxer with a very competent coach to boot
also Joe was forcing himself to stay in the bantamweight even though he was a featherweight, if he went up to featherweight he would destroy Hippo even more
>rank 1 world bantam weight
He lost to Jose.
Robbery.
Rank 1 is below champion.
wtf is a dude with just 8 fights doing at the 4th spot
Jose deserved the win by being superior for almost the entire match even though Joe came close to winning by TKO a couple times.
Because he beat the previous rank 4 guy who wanted the fight to pad his record. It happens. Your rank isn't determined by your win/loss ratio but who you beat. In a ranked fight when you win against someone higher rank than yo, you take their rank.
Probably a standout amateur getting fast tracked.
what is it that prevents the lower dudes with 4 times the fight numbers from kicking the newbie clown down immediately?
There's a bunch of convoluted rules determining who can fight who, mandatory matches, etc depending on the sanctioning body but they're not that much different. Sanctioning bodies are also corrupt and have the authority to decide matches.
The numbers aren't the end be all.
A lot of the amateurs debut as pros with very deep careers as such.
Easy (and extreme) example of that would be Vasyl Lomachenko who challenged for a world title in his 2nd pro fight and won it in his third.
With nearly 400 amateur bouts under his belt at the time of his debut he just bypassed the early record building stage and challenged for a belt as soon as possible.
that's kinda wack
boxing should have regular open-registration (for certified fighters, i guess) tournaments which the top spots are required to participate in, to make things more fun
this "i beat u and take all of ur achievements and then refuse to fight u again" thing sounds stupid
Tournaments don't work so well for boxing because of the toll that fights take on a fighter's body. Pro boxers typically fight around 5 times a year, and high ranked boxers fight less than that.
i guess that makes sense for a sport of dudes fucking each other up full-force
reality always stands in the way of fun, doesn't it...
out of curiosity, do you know if there are any martial art sports that allow for tournaments in the manner i described?
Well, let's see...
Joe has way more stamina purely by virtue of belonging to an era where he was a pressure fighter/brawler in matches that lasted 15 grueling rounds. While this isn't stated in-series, Joe was quite obviously ambidextrous if you look at any of his fights. Joe's recovery time is absolutely insane when it comes to getting his second wind after a knock down or in-between rounds. And if none of that's enough, Joe has killed one of the strongest punchers in his series, intercepted one of the fastest punchers in his series, and crippled Jose Mendoza for life -- a character that would stomp half of Ippo's cast regardless of weight class.
Ippo is a far better technical boxer, but Joe has the heart of a champion. In terms of accomplishments alone he should be standing with the likes of Takamura.
>he was a pressure fighter/brawler in matches that lasted 15 grueling rounds
He died the one time he went for that amount of rounds.
He died to Carlos?
Watch the super early UFC if you want stuff like that, people taking multiple fights within the same night.
Regardless tho, pro fighting is one of the most strenuous acts to put your body through
There's only an eight pound weight difference between bantam and featherweight. Assuming they meet in the middle at super bantam weight, it's only a 4 pound weight difference. Joe would wreck Ippo. If Ippo was middleweight I'd say he'd win, but he is nowhere near that weight.
not even UFC, you want the PRIDE FC grand prix tournaments.

Ippo? More like Ippoo, amirite?
Ashita no Joe? More like A Shit-a no Joe
>A featherweight boxer weighs in at a limit of 126 pounds (57 kg).
>Batamweight above 115 lb (52.2 kg) and up to 118 lb (53.5 kg)
That's some really skinny contenders.
probably. ippo is a retard whose only stragegy is facetanking and trying to pull off a big flashy move to win. that's why instead of going down a badass, he retired in disgrace after getting his ass kicked by someone that should've been far beneath him.
When you dempsey roll and that cross counter hits you.
