Makima’s independence or lack thereof

Is this also supposed to refer to herself? What exactly *is* the relationship between her and the state anyway?

On the one hand she is apparently a devil with whom the prime minister of Japan has made a contract. But on the other hand she works in middle management for the Public Safety Bureau and has to answer to superiors. If we look at a comparable case, the gun devil and the president of the USA, it is probably closer to describe the devil to be under their lock and key with the contract merely being a motivating factor (since torture or death threats are probably not working that well on devils).

Is this the same for Makima? And why is the rest of the world so freaked out about her? How does Denji figure into this? From her own explanation and the way other factions refer to her it seems like she is acting independently. But the aforementioned facts and the pic (as well as the PM apparently knowing about her plan) makes me wonder if she isn’t actually a lot less freer than we think right now.

Thoughts?

Guess I’ll repeat my question here:

Who did she actually refer to here? Did we ever find out who their leader/the big boss was?

Those were two different fights from the sound of it and I'm sure Makima would put two and two together.

>What exactly *is* the relationship between her and the state anyway?
Makima *is* the state, albeit unofficially, and the "necessary evils" are the (d)evils she keeps in her rape dungeon.

>Those were two different fights from the sound of it
What do you mean? The way I understand it that the CSM disappeared during fight with weapons+Four Horsemen+I assume some other assortment of devils, as in, that was a single fight.
It could easily happen that he'd eat one of the devils that was part of the contract.
> I'm sure Makima would put two and two together.
Maybe? Unless there was so precedence for any hybrid to be that strong, it'd make sense for anyone to default to "it must be a devil". I mean she remembers names of some of the devils that were erased, but that's due to seeing them fight. If her knowledge of what "hybrid" is and stands for(there is no actual term used in the manga), it'd explain why she wouldn't be able to completely connect the dots as well.

Then why bother being middle management?

I legitimately can't tell whether this question is serious or asked in jest. 2/10 for making me reply

Shad obviously? He was a hybrid after all.

It wouldn't surprise me if she was locked in a golden cage. The rest of the world is freaked out because Japan has a tremendously powerful devil on their side that is throwing off the balance of superpowers.
She even had an explicit line about how she didn't want to see her superiors because she finds them awful, which is something I don't think she had to lie about.

Also fuck you, Makima is the best

Because the bosses spend all their time in the office instead of travelling all over the place getting the devils they're interested in.

user, who was the leader of the Yakuza goons that Akane is referring to? The one who doesn't die when he's killed? Like killed by a Curse Devil or bifurcated via chainsaw? Think long and hard and read slower.

The last thread had a lot of discussion about whether or not Denji actually killed his dad or if Makima lied (again).

I think one clue to this might be the door: If what she said was true it should obviously be a door leading INTO a house — like it is shown to open during the supposed flashback when Makima reveals this twist. Yet when you look at its depiction throughout the manga (especially in the long scene in chapter 38) it is obviously that we are looking at the door from inside, one that leads OUT of the house. You know, like the one in Makima’s apartment which Denji opens (despite his instincts telling him not to) to reveal Power standing in the hallway outside.

Seems to me like more evidence that Makima made shit up to fuck with his memory.

Guys, are you retarded? You might wanna try slowing down yourself.

The big boss/leader is someone else since after they mentioned moving him to the villa, Katana Weeb is told to move, TOO, and Snake Gril tells them to chill out since moving him is unnecessary because he cannot be killed.

These are two different people and to my knowledge after the arrest of the yakuza (shown to be lead away in handcuffs) he is not brought up again.

Great work benefits, minimal public scrutiny, badass field suit, can have a drink or ten or on your day offs, own property in downtown Tokyo -- what's not to love?

???

Why be part of the PSB at all is my point. Why be limited by her responsibilities and the upper management’s rules and restrictions?

So was that a lip bit or?

>teeth
>Guis, is that a lip or ...?

Leader != Big Boss
The wording is explicitly different.
Shad is leading those mean there, so he is most likely the leader.

No idea. Doesn’t really look like it though.

Makima is National Divinity

I figured that difference was just due to in one instance it being a yakuza underling referring to their superior (you know about the Nips are about titles) and in the second instance some unrelated contractor in the form of Snek Gril referring to the same person in a more familiar/less formal manner.

Besides, even so that would leave open the question about big boss. Especially since leaders have always been shown to have contracts with devils (including gramps and his grandson Katana Weeb) so whoever that big boss is probably does, too.

Well then there is no reason for her to dislike her superiors much, is there?
I assume part of the contract is that she is required to respect the hierarchy at government/workplace.

After all, her powers of control work when she sees herself as somebody's superior. If the higher-ups would want to avoid getting controlled, they'd certainly want to establish their higher position over her.

what are you trying to imply here? The character's mouths in chainsawman will usually look like that when they're speaking

>Seems to me like more evidence that Makima made shit up to fuck with his memory.
Your dislike for her is leading you to insanely convoluted theories about what kind of door it looked like. Why do you _want_ her so much to be a memories altering liar? Kid killed his daddy, he's not innocent, end of the line.

It looks pretty stupid in retrospect though. I'd rather she just pretended in front of the guy. Makima post Shad is like a completely different character.

>oh no my seventy-year old out of shape Japanese superior is scary now let me go to Hell and have a pointing match with a primordial fear

what the fuck ahahahahaha
jesus

I think it's more of the thing with her very own nature.
If she went against social hierarchy like that, she'd be going against herself and what she is embodiment of.

The "lip bite" is your imagination, user. I don't know who started this meme when the leaks dropped Wednesday, but no. It's a cheeky grin. Nothing more.

>he's not innocent
It was in self defense, and he was an even stupider kid. So yes, he is innocent there.

BASED
NOW FUCK HER!
