How did KnY manage to make a protagonist who is inferior to Midoriya Izuku in every way? I didn't think that was possible, but it looks like the crown of worst Jump protag has been passed on.
How did KnY manage to make a protagonist who is inferior to Midoriya Izuku in every way...
>actually trains towards his goal once it's introduced to him
>after already being the alpha male of his family
>doesn't complain and stays positive
>fights authority that are in the wrong unlike deku who lets a fucking dog tell him he broke the law trying to protect life
outside of the asspull powerup flashbacks Tanjiro is great
Say what you will, at least he has actual motivations to act, outside of just craving recognition.
Remember when worst big 3 protag was Ichigo because his motivations were shallow and pretty much nothing else? Man, those were the days.
Ichigo was boring as fuck
Still better than Luffy & Naruto.
honestly it took me a while but I really warmed up to tanjiro
he's really cool.
I don't know how a by the numbers shounen sold so well on the manga side.
Is it really older women buying this?
All age groups, but yes, mostly kids, older women and Fujos
Everyone is buying it in Japan, the whole goddamn family loves it
I really don't get the appeal.
so most people then
Its got a lot that Japan loves, its traditional but semi modern, the MC is a respectable hard working young man with strong ties to family, demons and swords
He is literally Jonathan Joestar with more paternal/maternal characteristics.
>muh nippon naitonalism
Good example.
When I really think about it literally all of the characters in the main group in Bleach were terrible characters
They were all basically stock characters but somehow even more uninteresting
Kubo was smart to flood the series with so many characters every arc because the main characters never had any chance of carrying things
I suppose he does things the way he did so that the new characters would look good. If all MCs were like Tanjirou, then you would judge them against him and it's hard to write someone better than him. Ichigo is plain and boring so it's easy to make all new friends and enemies interesting without going over the top.
Even Tanjiro's asspulls are way more awesome than Deku's O MY SEVEN QUIRKS and O MY LOLI BACKPACK.
Only-child detected.
oh my 7 quirks isn't an asspull
Make your case
kek its true hes an onii-chan Jonathab
it's been foreshadowed since the tournament arc. One for all is a power stockpiling quirk combined with a power transfer quirk -> Midoriya's OFA is more powerful than All Might's and he can see the vestiges due to this stockpiling -> AFO and noumu show that multiple quirks are possible -> quirk singularity also implies quirks get stronger over time which means that OFA is hitting its peak as deku gets it [/spoiler] Also throw in the fact that he doesn't immediately get control of all of the quirks at once, he starts off learning one by chance, than has to work to master it, than practices for the next one, and then is finally able to use that. It's been 6-7 volumes since oh my seven quirks, including a small timeskip, and he can only use whip and float right now. Not really an asspull in my eyes
Inherited memories/connections to your ancestors is an actual real life concept too.
Literally everything in KnY was foreshadowed.
Asspull = doesn't satisfy the readers
Oh my 7 quirks doesn't satisfy me because every reader with an IQ already considered the quirks being passed along thing, but all hints were to the opposite since for 200 chapters, in near death situations, even when we almost saw the previous wielders of OFA VS Shinso, no new quirks came to Deku, the concept wasn't even touched. It was bad writing. It's the same thing as if Todoroki's older brother is that dude on the villain alliance, it's not unforeshadowed but at this point no one would be satisfied who is not stupid. The 7 quirks is an asspull because even more than the aforementioned case, the writing feels like it's convincing you to NOT think that he can inherit quirks.
It is an asspull.
ok
so in the end, it was a shojo all along?
Sure
