Nicholas the Chapel is massively overrated by the fandom. He betrayed his master, betrayed Knives, betrayed Vash, basically betrayed everyone, but it's all "okay" because the Punisher is a cool gun.

>Pioneer
That is a sound equipment brand

I think he is slightly overrated, because I think Vash is a better character, but that doesn't seem to be the consensus.
However, he is rated highly because he is the only one to truly call Vash out for all of his hypocrisy, and not being afraid to kill an antagonist worthy of killing. As the reader, you do get frustrated with Vash at times (like you're supposed to), and Wolfwood is the only one venting those feelings in the manga.

Incredibly underrated
More people should know about this masterpiece.

Only anime I can think of with actual Christian themes instead of Crystal Dragon Jesus "symbolism".

Chapel deserves no forgiveness.

Even in death he will never be able to wipe away the sin that is that epithet. He will always be the Chapel.

That is exactly the point.

Not enough readers get that point though. Far too little of the readership refer to him as Chapel properly.

Rare example of an anime original ending that's superior to the manga. Also GOAT ost.

No it fucking isnt. Knives is barely a character in the anime

>Rare example of an anime original ending that's superior to the manga.
you're an idiot and I doubt you even read the manga.

Never read the manga but watched the anime. Some people said that they fucked up knives and his motivation but it still came out somewhat ok in the end.
I rate it 8.5/10. One of the few series where the faggot protagonist actually sheds his idealistic ideology in the end.

Doesn't matter
he serves his role as vash's complete opposite
Doesn't need to be complex because he exists as a barometer for the stories' morality

>he serves his role as vash's complete opposite
Thats Legato

This. Legato even gets a pistol for his final fight with Vash just to drive that point home.

Just started reading yesterday and have to say. it's on point.
It's how I expected the anime to be when I started watching it

t. I never watched the last episode

Holy fuck how can someone be this much of an idiot?

Legato is more the force that pushes vash to finally break his ideas and lay bare his philosophy
but knives is the real one calling the shots and has the power to cause the most distraction because knives believes its literally good when people die
also they have the same gun and look almost the same for a reason

Maybe I missed something then, cause he outright states how the woman he grew up with was wrong and he'll just make his own morality rather than keep following her words.

Vash's philosophy has always been something he made himself. Rem's dream of the blank ticket and Vash's initial trauma of nearly killing Rem with a knife were only beginning foundations. Vash filled in the rest from his own personal experiences in the badlands.

Rem isn't the one who taught Vash how to shoot a gun after all.

I said I'm basing it on the anime. I don't know how the manga does it differently.

It's like cowboy bebop but actually good

I hope Dark Horse makes Trigun (Maximum) deluxe edition manga release like they have been making. They've put out a few volumes of Berserk, Hellsing, and Blade of the Immortal in the format and Trigun would really fit the format.

Was anyone else sorely disappointed that almost none of the characters Vash met on his adventures reappeared during the last battle when the memory feathers were falling down onto everyone left on the planet?

I was at least hoping to see Brilliant Dynamites Neon again at the end.

I think the movie is really good for what it’s worth

its like cowboy bebop except the action is terribly written and trash

Despite that his sin doesn't prevent him from doing good or to come to terms with his morale failings, the way you put it makes it sound like this isn't the case or that he will only have sin. He's both Wolfwood and Chapel, the latter doesn't deserve forgiveness but the former's deeds shouldn't be discounted because of it. At least in the manga, I'm fuzzy on the anime. Should go rewatch it soonis.

If you want to get technical, he's three things at once: Nicholas D. Wolfwood (who he wanted to be), Nicholas the Punisher (who his master wanted him to be), Nicholas the Chapel (who he actually became).

He can be both you know? And otherwise why do you think the anime ending is better? Knives relationship with Vash is integral to the story so having a more fleshed out Knives would help the ending.
