Disagree, are you talking about all of SAC or just 2nd Gig?
Jason Evans
I agree. It was worse than Psycho Pass.
Ryder Morris
Agreed for the most part.
It's intense the first time you see it because of the world's quality, but it doesn't resist the second viewing. The overall plot is weak, like most of the characters.
Eli Fisher
Both
Lucas Gomez
disagree
Asher Collins
Fuck, I wish there were more animes like this. It's been over a decade since I first time watched this show, and to this day it's still my number one favorite.
Adam Powell
Disagree, since it was unique.
The only thing that came close to it is Psycho Pass, and ID; Invaded.
but both is not as heavy as SAC, since not every brainelet could understand the politics behind the plots.
Jonathan Perry
doesn't get more overrated than this
Colton Thomas
Psycho is pass is the brain dead version GITSAC is better than it by every metric setting story writing music animation
Michael White
Ghost in the Shell isn’t overrated.
Lucas Mitchell
do you think OP has watched the series or he just said that its overrated because its popular?
Austin Barnes
Big disagree, GITS (especially SAC) is kino

Disagree
I think Tonari no kyuuketsuki is overrated, and all the girls in it uninteresting.
Austin Hill
Disagree. And I have yet to find another work with the same theme and as good as GitS.
Zachary Sanchez
Hard disagree. GitS and SAC are about the pinnacle of plot-focused anime. Almost nothing else rivals its atmosphere, aesthetic and completeness. It's just fucking hnnnng, who needs suspension of disbelief when you have dis to belief
Asher Johnson
Only 1995 movie is overrated.
Henry Sanders
Jack Rivera
Cowboy Bepop. It is too slow even for me.
Outlaw Star was way better.
Josiah King
Bad on every level from storytelling to characters to art to sound design.
Jaxon Collins
Disagree, what do you mean by sound design?
OST and SFX is literal masterpiece. It can capture the atmosphere of the battle and make the audiences fired up, thats far from being bad, rather it was the strong point of this series.

Take off your nostalgia goggles. GITS SAC has worldbuilding idiocies, suffers from the Mary Sue syndrome, inherits the grimderp of the 80s era.
Landon Green
Characters around Major are just props to sustain the kick-ass Mary Sue fantasy and plot devices. Apart from Togusa and Batou, the rest are as uninteresting and low-effort as it gets, it's difficult to tell them apart, since they look and behave the same way. There is zero depth or creative writing to any of them.
Dylan Powell
Benjamin Jackson
Strong disagree.
Julian Jones
>Characters around Major are just props to sustain the kick-ass Mary Sue fantasy and plot devices
true
>the rest are as uninteresting and low-effort as it gets, it's difficult to tell them apart, since they look and behave the same way.
not true, Paz, Borma, and Saito have their own dedicated episode to tell their backstory, therefore its not low-effort. Also dont watch on 3x speed
Paz is an ex-yakuza, Saito is an ex-rebel, Borna is an ex-JSDF, all of those 3 past still lingers in the characterization of the stories, like Paz still cannot remove his hobby as a gambler and he thinks like a gambler throughout the story despite of following Major's order.
James Rodriguez
contd from Saito thinks like a rebel.
He doesnt follow procedures of safety at the most part, if you think theres zero depth or creative writing in the character you are literally braindead.

Whatever their pasts are, they don't substitute for good character writing and these characters don't influence the plot in any manner other than being a mook taking orders. You could replace them with nameless, faceless copy-pasted Man C and Subordinate A and nothing would change in the story. SAC has such obvious video game writing it's jarring.
Ryan Robinson
>Whatever their pasts are, they don't substitute for good character writing and these characters don't influence the plot in any manner other than being a mook taking orders.

i
repeat
dont
watch
with
2x
speed

Ghost in the shell move 2 is the best thing in the whole franchise, everything else is meh
Connor Myers
yeah nothing would change in the overarching plots of the show, but it would be way shitter if it was like that. Their characters help flesh out all the subplots and passing interactions they have in section 9
Gabriel Rivera
>worldbuilding idiocies
Such as?
>suffers from the Mary Sue syndrome
True
>inherits the grimderp of the 80s er
SAC world is hardly grimderp

This was amazing, political intrigue / thriller done right. It was unpredictable, cool, interesting, and fitting with real world politics while still managing not to be lecturing or simplistic. It is the best anime that tries to do this type of setting.
I can sort of see where you are coming from, but to me that is not important. The characters are not developed too much, but they do feel unique and different and to me that’s more than serviceable. It is essentially a mystery thriller, not some emotional character drama. As long as they feel like different people with their own motivations and characteristics it is okay for me.
