That's also because he acted as Peco in the live-action movie of Ping Pong.
Anyway here's a interview of him with Uchiyama Kouki who is voicing King for the anime. Uchiyama voiced Smile for the Ping Pong anime.

Maybe the Jdrama influences me too much but anime Makoto sounds too positive or genki, not that he's a negative person but he lacks the yankee vibe.
King is so different for the anime so the acting fits the role but I'm a little thrown off, he's really another character.

Makoto's mother is also too subdued. I really like how she was some kind of loony tunes in the live action. Here, she's just an average mother who happens to be the main character's mother. I'm utterly disappointed. She was my favourite. Maybe I made a mistake for watching the live action a couple of months ago

they also didn't capture the "spirit" of why Ikebukuro was important to the cast. Also from what I believe. Iunno if the overarching plotline in the live action adaptation was in the novels but seeing that the best boy and Makoto's wingman are absent in episode one, I might just drop this like a rock. For the love of God, someone pick the novels up for English localization.
