serious answer: it's human psychology. It's weird because the chart itself can have an effect on that psychology. Think of it like this - the chart is just a visual representation of what humans are deicing to do with a particular asset. Humans have a heard mentality that way. It's debated as to why a group of investors will buy at X and sell at Y, but the patterns tell the same story. The whole chart analysis thing was invented by a Japanese rice trader (unironically) and there was a book i would recommend but I can't for the life of me remember what it's called. sorry.

It doesn't always break upward. TA doesn't tell you what will happen, it tells you the likelihood of different outcomes. These patterns should not be looked at as dumbed down memelines. These are the result how market psychology works and decades of people studying and learning about these patterns in a chart format.
