I don’t see the problem of an antagonist having insane motivations. If nothing else that is at least preferable to them having straight-up nonsensical ones that make no sense in the context of their actions.
Given the lore dump later on it seems plausible that one of the Old Ones in their hedonistic ennui became obsessed with something so asinine as St*r W*rs.
