We don't know how often Kohaku visited. Remember, he took her with him when he left, Sango gave up full time demon slaying when she became Miroku's wife. It's entirely possible that in the 6 years that it took Moroha to be born, that Kohaku was just too busy with reforming the demon slayers to consistently visit. We also don't even know if Towa and Setsuna were on their own since they were 4 or not, Towa says that it was like that as long as she could remember. Now that could be altered memory talking, but perhaps it goes even further back and the trio have been on their own since 2? We will have to wait and see if anyone reacts to the news that Moroha is Inuyasha and Kagome's daughter.
