Most shonen anime MCs aren't happy go lucky AND retarded AND insanely powerful like Goku. Most of the time they're moody, start off as pretty weak but are usually pretty smart. That's not a good premise for Goku ripoffs. Also depending on who you ask either Astro or Kenshiro were ripped off more than fucking Goku, yeesh.

from what I can tell YYH came out in October of 1992, a few months after Part 4, which came out in April of the same year.
I imagine though that YYH would have been planned for a while so I think it's just more likely that Josuke and Yusuke draw inspiration from a similar source rather than having a direct influence on one another.

WSJ became more lenient on him for YYH's success. Which is fucking ridiculous when you consider a fuckton of other WSJ series. I can understand doing that for Toriyama. I can understand doing that for Oda, Kishimoto, and Kubo. But Togashi? YYH didn't do THAT well.
