When did you start keeping up with seasons? When did you stop...

When did you start keeping up with seasons? When did you stop? Should user keep up with current airings or just wait for them to pass and watch cherry picked shows from each season?

If you just started out with anime
It's really recommended you watch the most critically acclaimed shows to get a feel for the limits of anime.
Then as you reach 100 anime, you can look at Zig Forums for recommendations by lurking or if you want, you can start seasonal shows. There are hidden gems but Zig Forums's taste is skewed towards popularity, seasonal hype, and cute girls.
If you're really lost after that, look at the shows you enjoyed the most and follow the directors' resume.

to answer your question.
I started keeping up in 2015. I did watch a bit in 2011-2012 but I didn't lurk Zig Forums at the time. I stopped following seasonal anime for a couple of seasons for personal reasons or the covid drought. I started reading manga and put it on hold for this season because there's a lot to watch.
There are still people who only lurk pre-2000's threads or people who just read manga.

The last time I kept up with a season was my last year as a neet, it was spring/summer fall 2014 season. Since I haven't kept up at all due to working but have realized the errors of my ways the past 2 years.

I don't remember when I started but I've essentially changed to waiting 2-3 weeks into a season before picking anything up.

Kinda over picking up a good episode 1 and half of ep 2 only for it to be utter shit.

I've watched less than 10 anime as they aired. I do follow manga though.

Do what you want. It's supposed to be a hobby but keep yourself open or you will eventually burnout.
I gave up on harems a long time ago but a show recently revived that spark (Girly Air Force). So I went back and went over the more remembered harems of the past decade. I really enjoyed Infinite stratos even though I thought I wouldn't.
Another recent example is Kanokari. I dropped the manga in the first couple of chapters because of how bad it was. I gave the anime a chance and enjoyed it. I ended up reading all of the manga in a couple days.
I'm not saying to read or watch these shows. If something sparks your interest and it is from a genre you don't like, give it one episode. The least you can say is you tried it.

only good anime this season is Higurashi

>When did you start keeping up with seasons?
2013.

>When did you stop?
2018-2019, but I picked it back up this year.

>Should user keep up with current airings or just wait for them to pass and watch cherry picked shows from each season?
I find there are usually at least 1-2 shows that are definitely worth trying each season. As for the rest, I lurk random threads from other shows a couple weeks in to see if there's anything I'm missing. The reason I don't wait till the end is that it's often more fun watching a show with Zig Forums than on my own.

It's not worth keeping up with seasonal anime because as with all media, 90% of it is crap. Just wait until the good stuff surfaces and watch those anime when they're done. FOMO and 'being part of the conversation' is for insecure weaklings.

critically acclaimed by who?
most of the stuff that's acclaimed by the masses is fucking avengers tier trash with no substance

I couldn't say: "Just look at recommendation charts" in a better way. so there.

>When did you start keeping up with seasons?
When Kill la Kill was airing in 2013
>When did you stop?
This fucking season. There is finally nothing I want to watch, not a single show. Nothing I can be bothered to waste my time on. I have finally seen an anime that I love after three years of some good anime and a lot of mediocre trash anime. The Made in Abyss movie fucked up my standards and now I can't stand to suffer through an episode of anymore seasonal trash. Anime talent seems like it moved away from the TV to the theaters, just in time for the film industry to take a hit.
>Should user keep up with current airings or just wait for them to pass and watch cherry picked shows from each season?
You should do whatever you enjoy. If you are loving anime coming out every season, keep watching at whatever pace you can. But if there are 40 anime coming out every season and you like 3 or so of them. There is a much higher chance you'll find something you really like in the thousands of anime that have been produced over the years. I say it's been three years since I saw an anime I loved but that was talking about season shows. Earlier this year I watched The Rose of Versailles and absolutly loved it. I reccomend watching old anime and keeping up modern stuff in case anything you really like comes out.

I remember seeing those shirts everywhere in the late 90's. Unfortunately, my dad had one as well.

Keeping up with seasonal makes me watch shit I wouldn't otherwise because I can catch the threads, which is nice right now. When I have less time I watch less.

Being a part of the conversation can be a lot of fun. I'm guessing I will enjoy Higurashi a decent amount more by posting in the threads week to week rather than just watching the whole thing on my own later.

You just do you user. I don't even watch anime anymore aside from originals, but still keep up with the latest news and updates of most series. It's like not watching last week's football match but read the summary of who did what and how did the match go. Same like how people read news of current events I guess

Okay, that's all I have.

Browsing Zig Forums is a little like that, I can get the gist of everything just being here sometimes, kinda like the experience of watching stuff as it airs with Zig Forums, will never forget PSG.

You don't have the "Japanese: CONVERSATIONAL" one?

I had been watching anime regularly since 2012, but started watching seasonally in summer 2014 after a girl I liked started watching tokyo ghoul, which started that season. Seasonals consumed me and soon became the main way I watched shows with some backlog on the side. I went from 6 shows a season in summer 2014 to around 25 shows a season in no time.

With the many anime airing each season in reality only 1-3 are worth even watching anyways.

I'm starting to think I'm older than some people in this thread, damn
