I knew that it's somehow a sequel but I really would have preferred a real remake but otherwise I think that the sequel won't be great and that a Shaman king remake is also not a great idea nowadays

Reboot. There's very little content that wasn't covered in the anime.
In fact It was just the last fight, at which point which the author thought - fuck it, let's redraw the series from chapter one.

It's a lot like HXH in that regard. Except the hiatus is intentional and not due to a suspected (non-mental) injury.
