The only VN adaptations I've ever actually seen praised as much as their originals are Kanon 2006 Clannad, specifically After Story and Steins;Gate. The rest are usually garbage or highly flawed

Deen Higurashi is considered "functional" at best. Not necessarily "approved of". Like if you watch it just as an anime it'll probably be alright, but compared to the source it's kind of a joke

S;G sucks as an adaption though.
Having Braun kill Moeka is beyond retarded, especially with the backstory he has.
I will state this fact as often as I have to, that was dumb. I kinda get that they had to change that scene for a TV anime but not in such a way that ignores the personality of the characters.

Clannad

Phantom of Inferno had a fantastic anime. Unfortunately the VN doesn't have an English adaptation so I couldn't really compare the two, but I'll assume it's quite good too. Most early Nitro+ VNs written by GenUro were killer.

Not the Corpse Party OVA but the day the nukige spin-off gets its own h-animation, everyone will love it. Unforgetable scenes like Kizami getting raped by Yoshikazu and Naomi banging Seiko in a trance will finally get animated.

Skips some entire arcs on the basis of it not doing resets for every arc(makes sense, considering the overarching plot at the end) but is considered very good. I think it's easily the best adaption.

People will disagree on me with this purely on the basis that you miss out on a lot with the sheer amount of content in it. Frankly, the newer adaptions of UBW and HF are great for what they do go over. However, it is NOT a replacement for the VN. There is no arguing that.

It's good enough for what it does. It's not terrible as people meme it to be. There's a reason it had lasting popularity. Even moreso with Higurashi, it's not a replacement for the VN.

I honestly loved the anime for this. Couple of girls got the shaft, but it's fine because they were boring anyway.

The majority of Little Busters VN is equally dogshit so it's a pretty faithful adaptation.

WA1 is even better and blows the source material out the water. I disliked how they tied up the magical aspects (or them being there at all) but that show is so dense it needs 2-3 viewings to truly appreciate. I was amazed at how many people hate on it.

I know it ain't long enough at 26 eps, why I'm hoping for a season one Pre-marimo death and a season two after that

Some of the routes were weak, but a lot of them were good. Humor was on point as well. Honestly, Majikoi was a raunchier LB with more humor.

Most of key anime, S;G is great even with some problems, utawarerumono was good too (second game anime is horrible though), fate is good for what it is but vn is way better.

Underwatereyramano was probably the best that I can think of.

All of the routes were shit, only the common route and some of the Boys at the end were worth reading, and then the ending overstayed its welcome.

Hope they're gonna make Extra into a movie, with OVA's showing the alternative scenes. But they ain't gonna do Extra its full justice and make it into a full season because it filters the people there for a dark-mecha anime when its really the greatest dating sim ever made.

None, the closest is SG because it has mainstream exposure so a lot of non-vn autismos picked it up and liked it. VNfags in general hate anything that isn't a 1:1 adaptation of their favorite notgame despite a 1:1 adaptation being literally impossible.

Most things Teruaki Murakami adapts are gold.
