Lain

Literally the only impressive thing about this show is how the writer predicted the future technology, everything else is average/ok.

What did he predict? The internet was a thing in the 90s. I guess that obsessed guy using a VR headset was a prediction

They never had real social media then, and the way he depicted and predicted how our social system would change to shape once we had access to everyone thoughts who felt free to submit due to being behind a screen. How we'll always have access to everyone's inbox and how it'll exploit our most toxic traits. It's pre impressive especially considering social media wasn't something anyone could even comprehend back then, not because it was too complex, but no-one would of had the thought of it, similar to thinking about a colour you don't know.

Haibane Renmei was better

the character designs are cute

>predicted
There's that word again. Consoom more media, you halfwitted teenager. By the time Lain was made, there had been countless science fiction novels and Hollywood movies exploring the potential of internet subculture. Literal shit like Hackers already did that, and it was a comedy flick with action elements.

>oom
How am I supposed to take you seriously?

>Hackers

Hackers was literally just internet wacky, maybe I could believe it attempted to warn us how the internet could affect affect us, but it no way was it such a in-depth dive in analysing and understanding how we ticks, others have done the same in predict the course of our technology and future, but no tv media had been as accurate / creatively told through atmospheric visuals, surreal directing, dense writing while dripping in themes with total focus in aiding it.

Lain did a lot of things, it didn't just dona good job at telling a message but it's also for it's creative execution, interesting characters which makes it a unique piece of art that did super well at what it tried to do.

Can you actually come up with anything compatible to lain in similarities?

thabk kyu for watching my show, user-kun!

> Hackers was wacky, my mongolian minimalistic cartoon was "art".
Sure thing.

> interesting characters
None, Lain herself included. The whole show is boredom incarnate.

he didn't predict shit

I'm sorry user, I didn't take into account that you need lots of flashy lights and sensory overload to stimulate your smooth brain :( It's okay bro we can watch some black clover together

> "they"
If you mean Japan, maybe. In the west net communications and groups were already a thing for quite some time.

Read this againg retard

While you're at it you can throw a protagonist with some actual character, some support cast with believable motivations, interactions with more than a couple of sentences and maybe, just maybe - a plot.

Only through small chat rooms, Yahoo messenger esque sites and emails. It was still pretty obscure to the masses, but Lain used that as a stepping stone for predicting actual social media, facebook in the pocket stuff. Like back then just wasn't compatible to now where every kid in the classroom with insta / twitter / facebook in their pocket, privacy being non existent, free speech being on a whole new level, how it's comparable to another world where people interact with another with a mask, or dependig on how you see it without one.

Social media just didn't have the pressure or not even 1% of the influence on the masses lives

laintards are all mentally ill trannies
if they haven't taken the rope they're all dilating now

What am I supposed to read here? You're coping and actively sweep relevant elements under teh rug in an attempt to further your own narrative, all while pretending for Lain to somehow be an accurate depiction of modern human behavior when it's merely representative of an outlier community that could be observed IRL during the time it was made. It's le art cause it uses le dark noir color palette. That's basically what your post boils down to. Lain didn't predict shit, it utilized information and other media avaliable to it at the time of production. If you can observe what you write about, it's not a prediction anymore, retard. Usenet cancer was already running rampant at the time, and it was virtually Zig Forums v0.45.

C'mon Zig Forums I thought you guys were atleast smarter than this

Is being contraction really worth acting like a retard

it's a postmodern story about lain against reality.
there's really no need for supporting cast or interaction between characters

Inthink you've missed the point if this is what you want, because Lain works perfectly for a character to represent the people who are influenced and taken over by the internet. A character without a voice now found a voice with social media

>Using real life events to predict the world 15 years laters and onwards

>How dare they not use baseless guessing and actually use supporting evidence

I want to fuck hebe girl like Lain

> we don't need nice things because i don't need them.
There, there. It's okay to like the things you like, user. You're a bit too defensive.

There was nothing like "social media" in Lain. At most, there were ICQ chat rooms.

Nice things? lain journey is about her identity and her alone, not about friendship or a certain goal that's why it doesn't need supporting cast with believable motivations or too many useless banter
