my sister's boyfriend collects shit obsessively. it was mainly star wars stuff for many years but in recent years he's also started collecting pets and plants and shit with my sister and they're total hoarders together, hes also a control freak and i feel like shes kind of a part of his collection.

For example, my father has always been sort of an oldschool dork and had lots of stuff like old hotwheels and sizzlers toy cars and such going back to when he was a kid. Well, after he retired and started having more freetime, he ended up discovering youtube channels where they talk about collecting hotwheels or whatever, and it's the archetypal shit where some fat bald guy sits in front of a camera with a room littered with toys. Later on I visit my parents' house and see he's started scattering his toy cars and shit across the entertainment center, on bookshelves, etc. He's copying the behavior he sees from these shitty youtube videos. It's a self-reinforced cycle where they watch this shit and think "well that's what I'm supposed to do" and the cycle continues.
