i dropped it in the middle of the second episode when it aired, just got bored and I generally want a show to make me care about the cast before they go for some drama, this show just starts and you get this dude family killed,but there was really no reason for me to care about what happened to the mc at that point.

It's overrated

A new anime gets released, people like it and express their joy, then contrarians show up to tell everybody that it is bad because it isn't a 10/10 rated masterpiece. People here like to pretend they are high strung media critics and can't just enjoy things, and the vocal fans that treat it like a masterpiece fuel them even more. You should honestly just ignore what Zig Forums in general has to say about anything.

People have a warped or highly romanticize view that if something is good it have to be revolutionary with full of new ideas. The true is good don't need to be new, good only need to be good. Anyone could come up with something new, but not everyone could executing an idea right.

Kimetsu is my favourite manga of the past decade, I couldn't care less what other people think about it.

This. Execution matters more than innovation. The Hero's Journey is the single most relevant story structure in human history and still grabs people if it is well executed. Just look at Lord of the Rings, nearly a century old and still beloved and recognized as an amazing literary work, and its themes and structure are really simple and by the books.
