Naruto is a gateway anime of the worst kind. It's a bad series, a clusterfuck of story and characterization that isn't very well done by any aspect, but which attempts to compensate for its weaknesses by adding in excessive shipping faggotry and DARKNESS. The normal user can see this as the shit it is, and may enjoy it, hate it or be indifferent to it, but all the while recognizing that the series itself, regardless of their opinion, is plain bad. However, these very aspects that try to smear over the shit of its core make it a breeding ground for aspie, unsociable underageb& faggots who engage in every kind of faggotry both online and in the real world. The superpowered characters all trying their hardest to look cool, the jutsus, peculiar, colorful clothes, the whole ninja faggotry and everything about the Naruto world fuels their escapist fantasies, while the pity-party character backgrounds, emphasis on revenge, and overall preachiness of the series make it fit just right with the mary-sueish drives of your average preteen and his sense of unwarranted self-importance towards the world. Exactly the kind of shit that makes little kiddies and underageb& retards eat this shit right the fuck up. Naruto is basically THE series to attract the most hated anime fanbase known to Zig Forums, which is why, regardless of individual opinions, it is the responsibility of every user to troll the fuck out of this show and everyone who likes it, and ensure that no Naruto threads ever encourage the newfriends to show their faces here.

Kishimoto actually forgot this, case in point Sasuke didn't copy the lightning cloak from the Raikage when he fought him, and the lightning cloak is one of the best buffs in the entire universe.

The finale is a lot deeper than most anons realize. It's not just about Naruto learning to forgive, no, Naruto finds a solution for a genocidal supervillain which does not involve punching the guy or invoking international law and order. It works excellently in the context.

During the arc, Naruto is often reminded of Jiraiya who is a stand-in for Kishimoto which works on a storytelling level because, like Kishimoto, Jiraiya is an author too. It gets puts in writing what Kishimoto's intentions are and that how much he is struggling to find an answer to it.

And the answer in the manga is brilliant in context but the answer if real-life, as Kishimoto correctly understands it, cannot be that. So, therefore, he created that scene. Where he entrusts the future generations of writers, the ones that would be listening to him, the ones who grew up on Naruto and maybe look up to Kishimoto as a sensei (like Jiraiya is a sensei to Naruto), to find the answer to all the hate in the world, and surpass Kishimoto and make him proud and give his work more meaning. Newer generation surpassing the old one is a major theme in Naruto.

That one tiny scene, which gets recalled by Naruto maybe twice in the arc, is Kishimoto baring his soul to the world. And it's beautiful. It works on a storytelling level and it works on a metaphysical level.

And that's the real answer. Kishimoto understanding his limitations in the broader context and entrusting the future generation to surpass him and make the world a better place. It also helps to know that the Pain arc was heavily influenced by the American invasions after 9/11. Pain's home country is just a stand-in for Afghanistan. This arc just works on so many levels.
