Why is the horror/suspense genre so unpopular?
Everyone is watching poorly written shounen or predictable rom-coms, while masterpieces like Higurashi get no attention from anyone who isn't a long-time fan.
How is that possible during the Halloween season?
Why is the horror/suspense genre so unpopular?
>why isn't this popular show popular?
There is no "Halloween season", it's one night.
Horror anime is almost all bad or worse.
Pretty sure Higurashi is getting a new income of fans. Thing is, shonen is considered mainstream media nowadays, so of course it's going to receive a lot more attention than other shows.
If you compare Higurashi's popularity with the non-shonen animes this season, I think it's doing pretty good.
Still on the horror theme, while more focused on comedy, Hanako-kun seemed to also attract a lot of fans, but again, that's not comparable to shonen.
It's not nearly as popular as it should be. Look at the abysmal Mal rating or all those ranking websites where it doesn't even reach the Top 10 in this season.
It's on a pretty decent spot on Anilist.
Because it's not that good. And I'm saying that as a fan of the series. And btw Deen adaptation used to be very popular.
>anime
>horror
LMAO
>Higurashi
>horror
lmao
>Danmachi, Mahouka, Tonikaku
Why are these shows popular?
>Higurashi get no attention
Probably because it's a sequel to a 60 hour long VN
I can't name you a single genuinely spooky """horror""" anime.
There are some very nice thriller anime though like Higurashi or Shiki. Higurashi is popular as fuck though so I don't really know what are you on about.
I'd say mononoke, it completely nails the horror atmosphere.
Bakeneko 2 is a straight horror movie.
>Danmachi, Mahouka
Generic shit that appeals to the masses as self-insert. Also, their first season were really successful, so of course their continuations will as well.
>Tonikaku
No fucking idea.
Horror has a terrible track record in anime.
Have you read the VNs?
CRINGE FACES ARE SO SCARY :((((((
There isn't a single cringe face in the new one. Yet.
The only real horror anime is slice of life.
It presents loving groups of friends who always have time to hang out with each other and do fun things together.
But such a thing is unattainable in real life, and that's terrifying.
Nigurashi
I mean, what horror about it?
That is literally Higurashi
Because it is not trying to be spooky anime
Does horror even work outside of games and novels?
There are no scary anime.
The last scene of episode 3 was pretty spooky
>Look at the abysmal Mal rating or all those ranking websites
Okay so you're just a fucking dumbass
>Higurashi
>well written
Kek, even low tier shounen are better written than this shit.
What a dumb question. Gee, I wonder why a genre that is about invoking dread and anxiety not mainstream?
Lmfao, I mean everyone had their "edgy phase" it's just that I grew out of it and I don't need to look at weird or gorey shit to feel like I have a special and better sense of anime anymore
Who teh fuck watches sport anime?
>t. shonenshitter
There are pretty good ones out there
Kuroko no Basket was enjoyable, Ballroom if you count that as a sports anime and Aoyama Clean Freak or whatever was a pretty fun show
>hasn't read the VN
Dumb goat.
No, just not a moron who thinks edge equals good writing.
>Higurashi
>edgy
You are a moron for thinking that Higurashi is about edge.
>Higurashi
>Not edgy
I bet you don't even know what this scene is about or who these characters even are.
>higurashi
>higurashi
Horror simply doesn't have the same sort of appeal as other shows. Almost everyone likes action, almost everyone likes comedy. Horror is naturally more niche since there are a lot of people with an aversion to it or at least no interest in it, even if the quality is good. To be very popular it would have to have a very widely appealing hook, and being a well written mystery isn't widely appealing enough.
ah yes the only scene non-higurashi fags know of
Holy fuck this thread.
I'm not saying that higurashi is bad per ce, it's just that there are better horror VN's like Chaos;Child or Danganronpa out there and you should stop praising it as a one of a kind masterpiece. It's obnoxious.
Shonen-fags.
well played user, 8.8/10
This scene is supposed to be emotional, not edgy. Just because Deen did a poor job at expressing that, doesn't mean the original did as well. Read the VN.
>Danganronpa
>horror
Shit opinion. At least mention Saya no Uta or Subahibi.
I hope this (you) will make your day less pathetic. Now fuck off
It's the only acceptable way to watch sports.
