I'm pretty sure Rien is just really damn old, but maybe she's giving Xu Fu some of her energy.

Shugen is just fucking annoying, I understand the point of his character, but his constant monologuing about his clan as he just mogs the main characters and kills Fuchi. He was a more reserve cool guy with a soft side it may have worked better but he just never shuts the fuck up.

who's the everyone she's talking about? The Tensen? aren't they dead?

This guy was created to be hated, to route some from Rien. Rien the waifu redemption flashback arc coming up.
