Yes I love it
Yes, and Zettai Shounen was great atmosphere-wise. The only thing I disliked about it was the excessive teenage drama in the second half.
Why was the shounen "absolute"?
I don't know, I remember questioning that name, too. I guess there are anime with even more nonsensical names as well.
I like one early '00 director specifically
Yes I love it
Yes.
I love these atmospheres. Rural setups are my dream location.
Most of my favourites are from this period.
Early 00's was a bit rough, they were figuring out how to make digital production look good, and LCD screens still weren't widespread. Everything looks kind of faded and flat. I do kind of miss how they actually tried having a few shows with post-college adults, though
>they were figuring out how to make digital production look good
they still are
They're now transitioning towards psuedo 3d production.
Yes I love early 00s anime.
Chobits good memories. Chii was very funny:

I have a lot of nostalgia for 2000s VN adaptations. They all capture this feeling nothing else has since
Early 2000s is going to become the 80's of the 00's
Dumb user, this is from the nineties
Yeah, there's some pretty underrated stuff hidden in there. Studios were allowed to take bigger risks storytelling-wise.
People are always nostalgic about 20 years ago champ. 00s had the 80s. 10s had the resurgence of 90s cartoons. 2020s have already started with Avatar The Last Airbender back in vogue and the 00s are hit again.
I know what you mean. I can't really describe it. Maybe it's just nostalgia.
I suspect the success of Evangelion might be the culprit. People weren't as afraid of greenlighting unconventional stories as they are now for a while after that. Figure 17 is actually a good example of that, because it takes some inspiration from Evangelion as well, but instead of angels they fight the Magyua or whatever was their name.
as a newfag, im going to need the source for all of these
Begging for sauce is usually frowned upon, but since 00s anime is pretty niche, I guess it's acceptable: From the top, Zettai Shounen, Haibane Renmei, Perfect Blue, Chobits, don't know, don't know, Texhnolyze, Tsubasa Chronicle, Figure 17. And I thought I was a newfag, too, but I guess I can recognize most of them
dont really like rural setups, there is nowhere to run, very claustrophobic
Nah, that's a really surface level comparison. I would agree that the weird early 2000s shows (of which Figure 17 is one) probably came out of the success of Eva but I'd really hesitate to put any direct inspiration from Eva. The director is a Dezaki disciple as can be seen from just the first episode and he's gone on the record saying that the alien sci-fi part is straight from "The Thing" (though some people may see more "Alien" from it). The last episode did give me some serious Gunbuster vibes though. The god-tier slice of life portions are directly attributed to "From the Northern Country" though I can definitely see a lot of his "To Heart" touches on it as well.
How are large, open fields claustrophobic? It's the narrow spaces in the cities that are claustrophobic. I guess a rural setting makes you feel isolated, but that's exactly why I like them.
I'm not really saying the inspiration taken from it was anything significant, but I can't see how the weekly fights with the ever-evolving alien lifeforms aren't at least a little reminiscent of it. But this is where the inspiration ends as far as I'm concerned, so I agree with you on the rest of your post.
based anime pro. it really is some of the best SoL i've ever experienced
That scene is perfect. Tsubasa is a great mc. I remember after that scene she becomes clingy towards Hikaru and gets anxious whenever she leaves her sight, her behaviour felt very real.
Thanks my man
It really is. I watched it 10 times over with tears in my eyes. Really really good drama, very bittersweet.
clarification; I grew up in a rural poland area for the first 12 years of my life, there were alot of fields around, if you were to run from somebody, he always had a clear view on you when you are running using the roads (short buildings, not alot of turns because roads were planned between the fields, so you can see a person from very far), and if you try escaping using the fields, then the soft earth from plowed crops would hinder and slow you like a swamp (where I lived next, swamp is also fucking terrifying, you never have a clear view of the things around you and a person can stalk you just fine using swamp forestation, it hinders your EVERY move even when you re not getting in the deep parts). as a child people in my home village made a really funny surprise for me, where they hunted me down to catch me for fun. i was told a bunch of stuff about monsters in the fields et cetera and when i was about 200 meters away from my home at dusk fucking scarecrows in the fields started running at me. i started running towards my home, hoped that i would be fast enough to escape, but i had no clear path of escaping without being hindered by those fucking crops. if i used the roads i could be hit by a car or they would catch up to me (i was a kid and they were running alot faster). in the end i escaped and they gave up after few tens of meters (probably laughing their asses off), but my father (who probably orchestrated it with my grandmother and a friend) told me, that beings of straw that they called licho would fucking enter the house at night and still catch me regardless how i tried to stop them or escape. my father also told me one night that he turned into a demon at night and i had no qualms to not believe him, coz i was seeing him maybe twice a few weeks. my grandma once added raw cow or pig eyes to some guest's meal just so he could find it and freak out. sorry for not a very Zig Forums post. please sauce some comfy 2000s animu
I don't know, growing up I've spent a lot of time in rural setting, too, and once you get over the unfounded anxiety or fear they just seem super comfy. Even by objective standards they are much safer than the city. The place you describe actually sounds great to me and I would love seeing it on screen. It has a nice atmosphere to it and invites adventure from what you decribe. That bit with the scarecrows seems like an interesting way to heavily traumatize a child, though, certainly not a good idea on your father's part.
